I do the daily N+ to-dos but then the rest are only 100-120 and it seems like it takes ages to do some of them.
Is this what people mean when they're "grinding" for nook miles? Is there a quick way to rack some up when you're desperate for NMT?

I tend to get a ton of them through milestones I hit. Go through the milestones (not the + ones) and pick a few to complete. For example I got 5k miles alone just by having 300 things in storage

I just keep stuff in my inventory if I'm grinding... seeds, saplings, customization kits, 30 of each resource, and then I just do the tasks as conviently as possible. You can also do something you rarely do for like 20 or 50 times, but grinding NM+ is easier.

I try to find ways to work toward multiple goals at once. For example, if you get the 5 fish or bug goal, then wait to do those ones until you get a goal to catch a specific fish / bug because then you can kill two birds with one stone.

you can get them much faster than usual by making a new islander (new nintendo switch acc) paying off the 5k nook miles loan and then getting up to about 10k miles and buying tickets with it, dropping them on the floor and then after that just deleting the new islander out of existence unless you want to grind more. even though it's very grindy, it works out much faster than doing daily challenges as they give you like 0.5 miles for catching 50 fish, whereas the beginner ones give you thousands just for doing a bunch of simple things like editing your passport

I prefer to do this because it means I don't have to waste any of my own miles, and as a stingy gal I like to always keep mine above 60k for literally no reason

As others have said, I like to prioritize certain tasks that go together to knock multiple tasks out of the way first. Whenever I get a Fruit Tree task, I shake two fruit trees and keep the other 5 fruit for the Fruit Selling task.

I also like to wait till I get a Chop Tree task and a plant a tree (either fruit or regular) task so I can chop the tree and regrow it.

I don't bother picking up sea shells until I get the task. Also, if you don't have enough seashells, manila clams count towards this total.

For the customization, I just customize a tool and then customize it back. It wastes two kits but its an easy 200 miles. Plus, if I need to do a Spend Bells task and I don't have anything I want to buy from the stores, I just buy 10 more customization kits.

For crafting, I either wait to do tools (flismy tool and then upgraded) or I do fish bait. I also might craft a Hot Item.

The most annoying tasks for me are easily the Planting Flowers and Watering Flowers because it messes with my town development. What I've been doing is just planting random hyacinths (my town flower) on the second level and then watering different flower patches on my first level.

I wish they hadn't added PC style grinding in NH.

I was glad to get rid of PC after grinding for leaf tickets and looked forward to the mainline game, and it seems worse.

Any tips on what to focus on? I’m trying this now but struggling to get to even 5k. But I definitely remember earning crazy fast in the early game.

well I'm not sure what to suggest because I normally just look at my nookphone at that point and pick the thing I can be most bothered to do.
obviously get the easy ones out of the way

- create a custom design
- change passport
- take a picture

then I would say maybe go for fish or bugs? honestly you get miles for almost everything, so if you see an object, interact with it, and whatever you get from that interaction, sell it. you're almost guaranteed nook miles for doing anything of that sort. then maybe craft some tools, water flowers, plant flowers, plant trees etc etc etc

oh, and as soon as you get the chance to upgrade your home, do it. you'll need to do that to get nook miles+ and also you'll need it to be able to actually buy the nmt lol (you dont actually have to pay the 98k bells of course)

The nook miles + tasks may look like small increments but they add up to A LOT in a day if you do each and every one effectively. I’m always at about 90k miles every time I log off my game for the day no matter how many items I redeem solely because of this. The secret is timing. Perfectly timing your activities to suit the nook miles + goals. Just make sure you do the tasks that you’ll get miles for doing at the time they are required. It’s like doing your daily routine but in portions, depending on what will be rewarded at any given time. So for rocks, don’t smash all your rocks. Just do them as and when there’s miles for it. Same for fossil assessment. Same for chopping trees. Don’t chop wood from your entire island all at once. Don’t water all your flowers at once. Do it section by section as and when there’s a reward for it. Before you know it, you’ll be rolling in nook miles without even exerting effort.

Exactly. Always do what Tom Nook tells you to do. You will always be indebted to Tom Nook, so just behave and follow the instructions on your phone and he'll send you to a remote island somewhere in the middle of the Pacific Ocean where you get to chop wood, mine ore, and bring back more servants for him. That's how ACNH works in a nutshell.

Like Romaki,I carry the essentials. Sometimes I can do 3 nook miles plus objectives in 5 minutes. Plant fruit. Plant tree. Hit trees. Cut down tree. Sell fruit. Sell hot item. Catch fish. Catch a particular fish. Catch bugs. Catch a particular bug. Talk to villagers (this one comes up a lot). Sell shells. Buy stuff. Sell stuff. Take a picture. Plant some flowers. Water some flowers. Hit a rock (this usually only comes up in the morning for me before I've hit my rocks.) Make DIY items. Customize items. Pop a balloon.

So my inventory contains
Tools.
Stone axe, iron axe, shovel, watering can, slingshot, ladder, pole, fishing rod, bug net.

Items Stack of saplings. Stack of flower seeds. Stack of customization kits. Stack of fruit.

Stuff I leave outside Nook's Cranny
Shells I pick up (at least 10 for the sell shell objective.)
3-6 of the hot item of the day

Super helpful tips
Buy customization kits, sapling stacks, and seed stacks for the buy 5000 bells worth of stuff objective. I usually just buy 2 stacks of customization kits.

Renew your tools you used a lot in between customization objectives when customize 2 items comes up. Not having tools break keeps you flowing.

Have crafting stations in at least three places on your island other than nooks.

Don't hesitate to throw stuff on the ground outside nooks cranny for later.

Get really quick at hopping in your house/nooks to dump inventory. Keep your tools and essential stacks in one part of your inventory so its easy to sell and dump.

I have about70k nook miles right now after spending 20000 this morning on terraforming ap stuff. I play a lot. Though nook miles just seem to flow in constantly because I'm almost continuously doing the nook miles + objectives when I'm not visiting friends islands.

And as it was pointed out - go visit your friends or people on here. So nice to get a milage bonus when you get home.

Hope some of that helps.

I don't grind NM, in fact I mostly ignore that aspect. I have about 7 NM tickets and around 25K in NM. I spend my daily miles allowances on fences and one or two diy per day.

If you focuse on NM+ it will wear you out and you will enjoy this game less because it would feel tedious...like beatle hunting in New Leaf. Just let the game come to you, focus on the NM and not NM+ and before you know it, you will rack up more miles. For example, today I made 6K miles because I finished multiple milestone that each net me 2000 miles. The only NM+ I really like is "taking a picture" and "selling stuff".

I had a NM for planting flowers (about 3 I believe) and I was too lazy to even do that and it was a 2X and I had flowers in my inventory.

In regard to getting NM, I find it easiest when you go to mystery island because you don't feel too overwhelm since everything is in one place, fish, bugs, tree, rocks, and etc... so you rack up miles fast on mystery island believe it or not, more so than your main island because everything is so spread out.
