hello everyone! if you're like me, you've probably played new horizons for quite some time now. i've found it can be hard to enjoy it like we used to, but i managed to think of some cool ways to keep the game fun and give more reasons to log on each day <3!

🍃 hold an event for you and your friends 🍃

parties are really fun, and in animal crossing, getting a bunch of people together to hold events is the best! you can throw beach parties, burry items and have a scavenger hunt, hold your own fishing/bug contest with your own prizes, have a fashion show, or even play hide and seek! organizing in these can be fun, getting friends to play with is one of the greatest parts of animal crossing! you could even create a shop or have a yard sale!

🍃specially decorate your island for the season/holiday🍃

this is something i do, and i find it cool to see my island with halloween, christmas, thanksgiving, or easter decorations!

🍃stop time traveling🍃

this might be hard to let go of if you're used to it, but it really pays off. you really need that bridge built now, but if you wait tommorow, it'll feel so worth it when you wake up and check your game. it can really increase how long you play!

🍃let some villagers go🍃

this one might not be for everyone, but it can really get exciting hunting for a new villager you like and finally getting them to live at your place. try getting a villager of every personality type, so it'll make your conversations diverse! try and get villagers photos by becoming good friends with them before you let them go so you have pics of all your favorites.

🍃fill your catalogue🍃

this one is REALLY fun. see if you can get every single item in the game, or if you can somehow get every color of all the items available to buy at the nook shop! it might take a long time, but cataloguing can be super fun

🍃fill the museum🍃

this one i did, and it's the best feeling seeing all the hard work you put come to life in there. it can make fishing and catching bugs exciting, or looking online to get the paintings you need. this is good if you wanna log on frequently.

🍃design some clothes🍃

this one can be super duper fun! try designing a cute tee/dress to wear, maybe inspired by your favorite character/anime/show/celebrity! i know friends who have their own fashion line in animal crossing. maybe you could do the same!

🍃use harv's island🍃

this one may seem like a no brainer, but harv's island is one of the most fun places to go when you're bored! you can create photoshoots of a club, maybe holiday photoshoots, movie shots, or use your catalogue to create your dream home!

do you have any ways you like to keep the game fresh? i'd love to hear your thoughts!

I like these ideas! ...EXCEPT I strongly disagree with the TTing one. For me, TTing makes the game more fun- I can get more done in a day, as opposed to being left with nothing to do except wait until the next item I need for decorating arrives, or until I can give the next present to my villager. I mean, to each their own, but it bugs me how "don't TT" seems to be on any and every list of ways to better enjoy the game when, for people like me, it's an important part of HOW you enjoy the game.

I feel like advice like "Switch up your TTing routine!" works better- if you do it CONSTANTLY, and are getting bored, than by all means see if taking a break helps. But if you're not doing it much or at all, and are getting bored, it could be a great way to increase your enjoyment (say, if you want to go back to a holiday you loved or missed, or just want to get more done in a day, like me) Sorry for my mini-rant, I just dislike the idea that TTing is a shameful secret or going to "ruin" the game for people (I've literally seen people say this- I've TTed since the first game and I've loved every minute of it)

The other ones I like, though. I've been considering trying to get more fish in my museum (my bug exhibit is complete, but those are easier since I'll literally see exactly what I'm catching before I grab it). And decorating for seasons is one of my personal favorite ways to keep things interesting! Almost the whole lower half of my island changes seasonally, and it's a blast to come up with ideas. Recently I finished a summer carnival with rides, games, a little market, and even a small camping area! It looks GREAT and really brightens the place up. Once summer comes to an end, I'll swap it out for a fall festival even BIGGER than last years- I LOVE using the Festivale items (the garlands especially) for decorations year round because the different colors work great for different seasons (and my current carnival has color-coded sections using them!) Plus, having a flexible island design helps if/when new updates are released!

What I did to keep animal crossing fun and new was start playing with people online. Or at least that's what I call it. In reality, I just do trades. But hey, it gives me a sense of purpose, because I get to interact with new people with every trade. And I don't just trade on here, but rather I mainly trade on Nookazon. Anyway, I guess I would say trading is what makes your experience in animal crossing the best it can be. I say do it often.

The only thing I do to keep it fresh is collect villagers photos and posters. I get bored of seeing the same villagers so to change it up I usually just get rid of villagers who I got their photos and find someone else from Nook Mile island or random visits on campsite (I still hate that mini game). Sometimes and very rarely I run around my island and change up stuff, to make the navigating more easy if I find myself getting annoyed with some areas, but it rarely happens. There is not much else to say.

To keep it fresh I just go on dream islands a lot to see what other people do for inspiration, as well as visiting friends whenever I can

I agree with all except the time traveling. I’m still fully enjoying the game, and I do most of these. I don’t think I would enjoy it if I stopped time traveling. I’m constantly decorating my town, and I can’t do that with that 5 item rule per day.

I actually would suggest the opposite. If you’re bored and never time travel, try time traveling 😅
Go catch some fish in other seasons, experience Halloween in summer, gain some friendly cockroaches, grow planted trees faster, etc. 🪳

On top of that it's a great way to grind, getting villagers photos. You also get closer to them. Which is pretty good with you moved an old favorite out, then back in to gain back all that friendship again

I could never let any of them go, if anything it makes it more fun to have the same neighbors. Because they'll give you names, ask to play games,

Since when you start over a villager it's fun to see a new.face, but you gotta go through the same hellos. Opposed too keeping them longer, not only to be close, but to have options to do things. Also new dialogue,

More interesting. At least for me

I sometimes make Harv’s studio designs based on stuff my friends say or do on the discord server (@Pyoopi @NefariousKing @Mick ). I finally was able to come up with something for Mick. 😋
For another friend, I made a couple different ones that ended up with a mini story since he cycled through villagers and two he made graves for — were favorites of mine, so of course I can’t let that slide.

I was for a little bit trying to make new outfits and a little movie studio set up to go with them.

@Pyoopi has invited us for bday parties and we had photoshoots. We also did an obstacle course on a friend of pyoopi’s island and egg hunt which were really fun. Then of course, we played some hide and seek a few times and it was fun. Nef and mick always found us 😅.

Re-decorating for the holiday or the season (basically when whatever bush blossoms) is what I tend to do. But re-decorating only takes up one or two real days of my time. Then it's back to not playing the game, lol

I think the best way to keep the game fresh at this point is to just start over but I'm not ready to lose my first island yet 😭

At the same time, Time Traveling can keep the game fresh for non-time travelers. If you're bored of summer, try TTing to Winter or Fall..Maybe even TT to rain if that's your thing ;).

I have been trying to get all the achievements completed, including the DAL rewards. It allows me to enjoy some of the simpler tasks (i.e. fishing, bug catching, etc) that I enjoyed during the first few months of play that I stopped doing once my museum was complete.

I did get rid of villagers a month or two ago, to change things up, but I am at the point where I really feel happy with the the set I have. I wouldn’t feel good getting rid of them.

Definitely into seasonal decorating. Not just the holidays, but the actual seasons too. Makes that period between Christmas and Spring more bearable if there's some winter decor to be done. Having said that, I have pretty much dedicated the remainder of summer to redesigning my island, so there probably won't be much of a summer theme going on. But the reason I'm doing it now is so it's completed in time for Autumn, my favourite season.

Big terraforming projects usually get me interested in playing again. The idea of destroying areas and rebuilding them is exciting to me. I’ve done it several times already so the painful thought of removing items/flattening/etc. isn’t as daunting as it used to be. I find that journaling and creating narratives for my island is also what keeps me interested, even if it’s not a daily thing. I used to blog about New Leaf and intended to do so for ACNH, but I couldn’t keep up with it because I made the mistake of being too ambitious with daily entries. Now I’ve found a journaling format that I like and I look forward to playing so I can write tidbits about my island life.

While getting back into AC is usually a self-motivated thing for personal projects, my favourite part of the game is meeting up with friends and finding interesting things to do together on our visits. Recently I’ve been trying to get a group of my IRL friends who play to game to tour my friend’s islands with me, like a little holiday. Working towards museum/catalog/other completion was never a big part of my gameplay, so it’s not something that keeps the game fresh for me in the long run. But I am very close to finally completing my museum, something I haven’t done in any AC game before. I look forward to bugging my friends to let me catch my final bug so I can complete my critterpedia!
