So, I recently did a commission for somebody (one of my 3D models) and the transaction was a success, but I only just discovered that I can't actually accept the payment they have sent me, because my account apparently isn't verified, and to get verified I need to either have a bank account or have a credit card, neither of which I currently have.

Are there any alternatives to this? If not, I'll probably have to stop accepting commissions for my work.

You don't have either? o.o

But yeah try contacting them(paypal)maybe or ask them to pay another way if possible?

I'm not sure if sending it a different way would make a difference. I sent them an invoice, if that helps. I'm thinking maybe it has something to do with it having been converted from USD to GBP. I'm not entirely sure, though. I think contacting PayPal might be the best option.

Yeah don't send an invoice
Have them send for either family and friends (kind of illegal but no fee for you) or as a service (you pay a fee when you receive the money)

my account isn't technically verified and I accept payments, but they hold it for 21 days.

if you dont have a card or bank account how did u make a paypal???

The family and friends thing seems like what I should have done. Thank you!

I was able to create an account without any of that. They let me skip past it.

Maybe I'm missing something here, but how would you get the money they paid you through paypal if you don't have a bank account or credit card attached to it? There's no place for paypal to send the money to you.

Weird, I had to register my card for mine.

PayPal has their own "wallet" feature with your balance. From there you can link a bank or a card and whatnot. I just intend to buy online, though.

I remember years ago I tried to make an account but I needed an actual credit card, not a prepaid one. Now it lets me create an account without using a credit card. Maybe their rules changed?

Very possible. While looking for solutions to my problem, I found a lot of very outdated information. I understand they changed the way invoices work a while ago as well.

you have to have a card or bank to completely verify the paypal account. they dont force you to at sign up because people complained, and now they have the paypal balance/wallet feature. to verify an account though, you have to have a card or bank OR somehow become a trusted seller (i believe this is still a thing.) if you dont, all transactions are witheld for a few days. you should get the funds into your balance in a few days, if not, contact paypal customer service (which is essentially the same as shooting yourself in the foot, they have the WORST customer service)

Thanks for the information!

Not sure how old you are but when I was 16 I got a bank account with my mom because I used to babysit and stuff and needed a place to put my money away. I think because I was younger my mom had to co-sign for it or something I don't really remember but that'd be a good idea if you are planning on doing more commissions and stuff and want access to the money.

Yeah I think I got mine around.. 14-15 can't remember but probably a bit younger than you so yeah, if you can you should really get an account and/or card (how do you manage without btw). I know you are like, 8-9 years younger than I am, still would probably be a good option unless you love harassing support people.

they actually dont ask you your age if you sign up via another website, i signed up via steam and it never asked me if i was 18 or not lol

Decided to close the account entirely after a chat with somebody over on Reddit. If PayPal caught on about anything, or that I was underage when I created the account, they can lock the funds and even fine you in extreme circumstances. So, to avoid trouble, I'm just not gonna do anything with it until I'm 18, which is the age it says you're allowed to have one. Had I known about all these restrictions, I obviously wouldn't have signed up at all.

The money I got for my commission will go back to the sender before the end of next month, automatically. I've let 'em keep the model anyway for all the trouble. Account is closed, not gonna be accepting commissions anymore. Fine by me!
