Can somebody please explain it to me, the first three villagers were totally random, because I was not aware of the new mechanics, and now I have spork, Annabelle and fauna with me, yesterday the camp was completed and today Chadder is in the camp and will move in, I am aware that one is mandatory. But now I can buy the land plots for more residents.

Can somebody please tell me how should I do it? How long do I have to scout the islands or taking in movers from other games, what I don't have to do?

Please and thank you.

How long or what triggers a random villager to move in ? Will someone move if I don't buy the new plots?

If you place a plot down and haven't invited a villager from an island tour, camper or amiibo it will be sold to a random overnight. As long as you don't put the plot down, no one will be able to move in.

Edit:
Oh for amiibo campers, you'll want to put the plot down on their third visit, otherwise a random will move in.

Can I invite villagers without buying the plot or I have to buy it for villagers to appear in the islands?

Can I begin to kick villagers right now?

I can technically have a plot of land in my bag and no one will move in then?
No amiibo cards, so no problem with that but is good to know to incase I decide to get some.

You'll have to put the plot down to invite villagers. They won't show up on the tours if you don't.

Not sure about kicking villagers out. I'm assuming it's like in past games where you have to have at least 9 villagers for them to start wanting to move.

Yeah, you can hold onto the plot and no one will move in. Only when the plot is set down.

So I only have one day to do tours and invite someone, beginning from the moment I place the plot, mmm not so much time, should have investigated more before placing the first three houses.

The first three that Tom Nook makes you set up are a bit different. They'll sell to randoms instantly once you finish all the crafting task for all three. I made the same mistake as well. If you wanted to control those move ins, you were suppose to invite three villagers before finishing those tasks. The rest after the mandatory first camper works like how I described before.

Yeah, it kind of sucks that you'll have to tour hop until you find someone you like before the end of the day. So make sure you have lots of Nook Tickets before setting the plot down.

Just one more question.

How does regular campers work?

They arrive without a plot set I suppose, do they have to come 3 times too or that is only on amiibo villagers? It work as the first one that on the same day they can move?

I thought I might compile a little list, for those reading the thread.

To invite a new villager, you must have an empty plot put down on your island (not just in your pockets). You then have until 5 AM the next day to invite someone to live in that plot, otherwise someone random will purchase the plot.

A new villager may come from one of the following places:

1. Random
If you place a plot and do nothing, at 5 AM a random villager will move in.

2. Mystery Island
When you have an empty plot available, you will start to see random villagers on the mystery islands again. Talk to them to invite them to live with you. I suggest having enough nook miles to purchase a lot of trips to the islands before setting the plot down, as well as starting with plenty of time. Some people have found dearly wanted villagers on their 20th trip (40,000 miles ).

3. Amiibo cards
I hear that to invite an Amiibo character, you actually have to craft an item for them a total of three times, one item for three days. After giving them the third item on the third day, you can place an empty plot down, talk to them, and you will then be able to invite them into the empty plot. New Horizons is making you work to get that amiibo to move in!
Caution: if you place the plot before the third day, a random will take the plot instead. Only place once third item on third day has been given.

3. Someone else's town
It might be that someone else has a villager that is moving out. The villager cannot only have mentioned moving out, but their belongings must be in boxes (their last day on your friend's island). First, place a plot down on your island, then visit your friend's island and talk to the villager that is in boxes. There will be an option to invite them to live on your island and they will occupy the plot you put down before visiting.

4. Campgrounds
Though I'm unsure if the campgrounds is solely for amiibo, random villagers should show up to the campgrounds as well, at least with how the campgrounds previously worked in ACNL. If you see there's a tent, go inside and see who it is. If you like them, put down a plot and invite them to live on your island. This still needs to be confirmed, I do not know if you would need to craft three items for them as well, but I will edit this post when I find out.

I was just wondering this, I'm going to look into it! I think making a new post will help best, but I'll let you know.

Honestly I'm not too sure. I'm not actively time traveling to test it myself, but from what I've seen so far it seems they do visit even without a plot set and they are able to move in on the same day. Though I'm not sure if you have to have 10 villagers already for it to be possible.
