Just curious as to why the HTML tags are turned off on the forum. I think it would be really cool if we could code our own mini website and slideshow to really spruce up threads (I run a Daily Challenge thread in the ACNL board and this is something I'd really like) but I'm positive there's reasoning behind why it's not turned on.

If anyone knows, I'd be really interested to hear. :)

Thanks!

It would be abused with massive text, JavaScript etc.

BBCode still allows you to do everything you'd need to though. Why can't you make do with it? :p

You could make a slideshow using an animated GIF or YouTube video, I guess. There's one workaround for if you still want to use that idea.

And, of course, there's nothing stopping you from linking to another website. ;)

Come on, have some trust! Surely, it could be tried out to see how people react; I doubt many people even know how to code HTML so they wouldn't even change what they're doing. If it became a problem, couldn't the admins just turn it off again?

In response to the first sentence, I'm sorry but that's just a flat out lie. And it's not about needing to do, it's about wanting to do! I want to make the experience for the people on my Daily Challenge thread more enjoyable and enticing, but BBCode aren't capable of that. Sure, you can put up nice graphics and all, but I think there's lost potential. Art galleries in the museum could benefit from like a 'Feature Slideshow' using HTML where they could showcase all their best works, rather than a spoiler that most people won't even click on. I don't know really... I guess I just feel really limited with the forums tags and such. A YouTube video is not a slideshow. When I say slideshow, I mean like fully interactive clean image browsing, not an animated GIF.

And, of course, there's nothing stopping you from linking to another website.
I suppose, but who wants a big blue ugly link when they could have a nicely formatted thread?

That's just my take on the matter. :p

Eh, maybe if you needed to pay 1000 Bells to be able to use it or something like that, since older members are less likely to abuse it.

Okay, so you want a slideshow rather than just a list of images. Perhaps it would be better to request that functionality rather than opening such a wide door such as HTML, especially as a slideshow would require JavaScript, which could potentially be used to redirect people to dodgy websites, crash the browser, play sounds without warning etc.

Oh, and host your images elsewhere. And the links aren't blue...

Reading over my post, it sounds a little harsh, but I'm just trying to give suggestions. :p

I like this. I would be happy for this to be incorporated.

I would like to be able to use HTML as a whole, not just a slideshow. I was just giving an example. The reasons you provided were good, but couldn't users just get banned/infraction-ed for breaking the terms of service (which could be added, granted HTML was incorporated?)

I already do. :lemon:

My bad. The point I was getting at is that embedded things look way more impressive and professional than just linking to external sources.

I understand. I do feel the same about my responses. This isn't an argument, just a friendly debate. :)

Welp, that's the end of our friendly debate.

HTML is still very unlikely (but not impossible) to be allowed, but there could be BBCode improvements.

someone will abuse it and screw up the entire website. it's not there for a reason.

Generally the reason. Just because we can user X doesn't mean we can trust user Y to not ruin everything. I think we all know from AC itself, that if there's a way to abuse it there's a will.
