I can never let my cranky villagers move

it's a struggle lol. I'm a sucker for the crankies and always bond with them no matter who they are (even when I don't expect to do so in a million years), and I'm always unwilling to let them move out because I just can't say goodbye! this poses a problem for me since I do have cranky dreamies I need to make room for. for instance I told myself I would get Gruff's photo before I'd let him go. I now have two photos of him so mission accomplished, but every time he's asked me if he should move I just haven't been able to let him go, and the mere thought of him ever moving out has me all gloomy. there's just too many good memories man... he was my first cranky on this island too. I recently had the brilliant idea to just let him stay forever lmao. which is funny because my initial reaction to Gruff moving to my island was "oh no". oh how the turns have tabled!

do you guys have villagers you didn't think you'd care for who ended up becoming permanent villagers on your island because they were just too darn charming?

Katt. I literally said oh no when I saw her when I came out of the airport. But shes so cute and sweet. Now its really hard to move her out even though I have her card. Mostly because shes my starter villager (along with Rory that just reminded me of someone I know irl lol)

Apollo. Always been a fave of mine (and a cranky at that) and I know the softening of crankies over recent games has been very unpopular, but as someone who spent like 8 years TERRIFIED of Apollo, to have him in my town now and have him constantly call me 'kiddo' or 'buddy' KILLS me. I feel so loved by him, despite our differences The father I never had.

i also love the cranky villagers.... my island grandpa. i only have one (avery) but i wouldn't say no to another ! like if marlo appeared in my campsite i would absolutely move him in.

It was Katt for me too.She was the starter ucherly on my first island and I figured I'd just let her move out when she asked but I wound up liking her too much to let her go.Besides,if somebody messes with me they'll have to answer to Katt.

aw Katt is my favorite uchi! I've been such a massive fan of her design for years. her slightly crazed looks really contrast with her sweet personality lol, I love her. makes it even more special that she's your starter. I hope she moves to my island soon!

gotta love our island grandpas! I'm a massive fan of all the eagles (except for Keaton who looks exactly like my boss. the resemblance is uncanny), they're so cool and don't even get me started on their majestic beaks! needless to say I'm also a big fan of Marlo's design

I saw T-Bone on a mystery island today and I was this close to inviting him to my island which surprised me! the only reason I didn't was because I already have his card and could invite him whenever. but I had never once considered moving him in until I saw him today. there's just something about his face, he's surprisingly adorable in a way? I just know he has the potential to grow on me really fast and I simply don't have room right now lol. this is actually so cool because Boyd was an unexpected permanent villager on my last island (before the island got deleted, rip). I had the initial "oh no" reaction to him too but then I did a little dance next to him one day and saw him dancing along with me which surprised me because he was a cranky, and I had never had a cranky join in with me like that before. we grooved for ten minutes, it was legendary. couldn't let him leave after that lol!

I love when that happens. it's usually the villagers you don't expect to like who you end up loving the most I've found. the way they sneak their way into your heart... the little rascals! the "look how far we've come"-factor definitely had a part in Gruff and Jeremiah becoming permanent villagers on my island, that's for sure! I did not expect to love them as much as I do

I know exactly what you mean! When I first saw her I had neutral feelings and never expected to get attached—eventually she became my favorite of the villagers.
She’s so neat and unique!

Gaston! I recently wanted an all male rabbit island (Minus three none rabbits), and well remembered that he was the cranky rabbit. Well I was suffering from lack of moody villagers, and got him.

Like you, I absolutely adore the cranky villagers, I have Static, Bruce, and Chief on my main island, who I absolutely love. I still kinda wasnt sure about him. But after a few days of having him, I now really like him, just seeing him reading, he's so cute. Though he's always loosing his bag.

I had to clench my fist while reading this because I was having such a hard time processing all the cuteness. I freaking love Gaston! oh man, just imagining him walking around with a little cowboy hat on... that's it. I mean, I don't have permanent villagers (on my main island, might on my secondary), but some have stayed longer than I expected. I'm also a sucker for crankies (they remind me so much of my Papa- he came off as a really gruff, grumbly old man, but had a heart of gold and adored me and his other grandchildren). I fell in love with Vic- SUCH a handsome viking boy (those eyes!) and, when he'd get that "let's sail the seas together" dialogue I would just melt. I had him for ages and had a backstory for him and everything. IF I had permie villagers, I'm pretty sure he would be one (along with Dobie).

And I currently have Hazel and Grizzly, both who've stuck around since... late summer, I think? Hazel is a cutie who looks good in all seasons (something I plan for, since I usually change my villagers seasonally) but Grizzly... Grizzly is a legend. He is, IMO, the most expressive villager ever (yes, I've had Judy, but Grizzly wins). He can easily switch between "look at that precious angel teddy bear I want to squeeze him" and "DEAR GOD RUN FOR YOUR LIVES IT'S EVERY MAN FOR THEMSELVES". His angry eyes are really scary, but his little smile... so sweet. He's obviously sticking around through fall at this point, but I plan on keeping him through next month at least, too. His will be the first house I remodel when I unlock the option- he's our forest ranger, so he's getting a proper ranger station!
Seriously, though. I think Grizzly is pretty well-liked, but he's not talked about nearly enough because he's so stunningly beautiful. I... may actually like him as much as/maybe a little more than Dobie at this point (I'd still take Dobie over Grizzly on a permanent island, though, since I wouldn't want two bears and Ursala is a MUST... I could honestly do a whole bear island, I love so many of them)

I'm a writer, so I tend to give my characters backstories, though the ACNH ones are less intense than my, say, Skyrim ones, lol. But Vic was a favorite of mine- I told myself he was there even before the town was built up, having shipwrecked there years ago.

I also have Marlo on my side island and I tell myself he was once a famous actor who was best known for playing mobsters. Now he's retired (I plan on making him a nice, but somewhat overgrown and messy, mansion and garden) and runs a restaurant (the one on my HHP island, lol) where he recounts his glory days... and makes people wonder if he actually MIGHT be involved in the mob.
I never intended to get him, but I made him a vacation home, and was like "darn it, I need him now"

And Dobie is epic! I randomly got his Amiibo in ACNL and quickly fell in love with him, and he was my main cranky for a long time in ACNH. He will always hold a special place in my heart with that sweet little grandpa face of his ☺

The bears are so underrated imo! An all-bear island would be cool, please tell me if you ever make one! And, YES, MY GIRL HAZEL! I have her on my island as well, and she's downright cheek-pinchable. She looked so cute in her little chef outfit on Turkey Day!

I forgot to say I love Gruff too! He was in my nl town and he was my favorite villager which of course means he moved away. i was so bummed when he moved but I always got so happy to see him in my shopping district.

HHHHHH I just met Boyd on a mystery island!! what are the odds? I immediately invited him to come live on my island, there was no way I was gonna pass him up! in just three NMTs and on my last one too. my dancing buddy!! my favorite dance to see Boyd do was the “seductive shimmy ” dance, you know the one when they hit you with the smoulder? LOL don’t know how else to describe it I’m sorry. it was one of the reactions you could unlock during Festivale I think. anyway THE WAY I WHEEZED when I saw Boyd imitating me. I so didn’t expect it either bc all other crankies have just given me the side eye or smiled at my antiques but never joined in. ‘twas the stuff of legend! so excited to get him back! <3
