I don't like how my island looks

I am in the middle of revamping. And I really don't like how it's turning out. It looks blah and bland. I don't want to reset because that's not going to solve anything. I don't know what to do! Help me fellow Animal Crossing fans!

And don't get me started on the rock garden. I don't like that either! HELP!!

Having more info would be helpful here! What island layout do you have? Are you going for a particular theme? Do you prefer a more open layout or a highly decorated one? Do you have any examples of areas you hate/love?
Take things slow, plan it out ahead of time, and break your tasks into small chunks. c:

I have the layout with the two south facing river mouths. I don't have a particular theme but I do like to have a lot of rivers in my town. Like rivers and water around my villager's houses and around my museum. I discovered as I was doing this revamp that I like highly decorated because this open layout with barely anything outside isn't working. It's like I'm underestimating my own creative abilities. There aren't really areas that I hate persay I just have too much open space and no idea what to do with it.

Thank you for the advice. I'll defintely take it to heart. I'm going to do a revamp of my revamp, so I gotta go buy more bells.

I'm going to spread my villagers out again instead of doing the neighborhood. And add more water. I'm also not going to do the rock garden. I think I'm going to let my rock spawn naturally unless they are in an area I want to put something.

I feel like trying to redo your island when it's covered in snow doesn't help. The full on white colors don't do it justice and kind of kill the vibe. I haven't done much terraforming over the winter.

It probably doesn't help. I could wait until spring to start on my revamp. Spend this time, paying off my house.

Yea, the snow makes terraforming difficult to really enjoy since everything feels so dormant. It's nice for variety over the year but I think most people are looking forward to when their islands look alive again.

Maybe you should look at Pinterest or similar websites to find inspiring ideas? Sometimes when I get bored I loose myself in the huge amount of pictures available and save the ones I prefer and find interesting to reproduce or inspire me. You can find a lot of ideas for every theme!

I mean I'm not trying to dissuade you from redoing your island right now, but I know I am holding off until Spring or the grass comes back.

Of course, I know you aren't trying to dissuade me from anything. I didn't get that vibe from you. No worries. :)

But yeah, the winter and snow is cool and all but I'm ready for the grass to come back. It does make terraforming a lot more difficult and less motivating.

First thing I'm doing is tearing down all my bridges and inclines. By the time it removes them all, it should be spring. XD

Screen shots or dream address?

I only do my island one little piece at a time... and I re do terforming/decorating as I decide I don’t like an area anymore.

I don’t obsess or get stressed over it, just see it as a chance to get more gameplay :)

I recently completely redid my island and I have to agree that terraforming in winter is not so enjoyable. I like my layout more now but in general the snow just doesn't match my idea of an island and the custom patterns, flowers, bushes, and fences just all look mismatched with white on them, and it's kind of hard to judge if this looks good right now because I want to see everything in green, not white.

Also, it's kind of hard terraforming in winter because the white is so uniform that it's hard to see where the cliff ends from the north

Maybe try visiting some Dream Addresses? If you have a certain idea in mind, you could even ask if people on here have DAs that would fit! If you're looking for highly decorated, mine would definitely fit, but the current version in my holiday version so IDK if that'd fit, lol. And I don't have the two south rivers- I have south and east.

But that could give you some ideas for how to start. Personally, IDK if I could terraform an island from the ground up... that seems too intimidating. When I started my island I picked a layout I liked as is, with minimal terraforming. It's worked well for me! Maybe going back to the basics would help? Trying to remember how your island looked naturally, and starting from there?

Yeah, I decided when I do my revamp, I'm going to stick to one area at a time,
I don't have a dream address, but I'll take some screenshots and share them in a bit, I'm not on my game right now.

That's true. That's probably why I'm not liking it.

I've been visiting some DA to get some ideas, both random DA and DA of people on here and I've gotten some ideas. I have a screenshot of how it looked before I started terraforming. So I'll refer to that when I finally get started on my revamps.

See, this is another reason we need explosives.

Just hurl a grenade at things, and let the cliffs and rivers get a whole new look.

It's quick and dirty, but it would work! :D :D :D

This gives me an idea for a service nook could provide, clearing and flattening a section of the island at a time. Like maybe one of those large squares on the map.

One thing I've learned in AC and in making art, and in decorating cakes & anything else creative, is that you can't evaluate it properly in the middle of the mess. It is going somewhere, and partway along that journey you will want to throw in the towel, but then at some point it all comes together and it was well worth hanging in there.

It works in Stardew Valley, no reason it wouldn't work here. And it would make things easier.

I support this idea.

That's why I'm not reastarting. I'm hanging in there, sure it's going to take longer but it's will be worth it.

I'm currently taking down all the fencing on my island. I'm getting some ideas while I'm doing this. I decided I'm not going to overrun my island with fencing. Only around certain areas am I going to put fencing. I don't have a problem with fences, I really do like them, but there is a such thing as too much. IMO
