It sucks that you can't name your character that just because Nintendo has a dirty mind. I actually know someone named **** and I feel bad that if he wanted to play Animal Crossing and he wanted to name his character after himself, he couldn't. That's not very fair.

.. And it's censored here. Good lord.

Darn, I think I know what you mean.
I think it sucks as it's not even that much of a dirty word, and it's still used as a nickname very frequently.
The limit's up to 8 characters though, right? Couldn't he lengthen it to Richard?

I don't see why not, but it's still unfair to not be able to use your full name if you want. :c

It's not a bad nickname (or name). However, as long as people out there are making it dirty in their mind, it'd be easier to just go my Ricky, or Rick.

That being said, yes, it is unfair. Nintendo doesn't want people naming their character **** just for dirty purposes, and they don't have a censor to detect what purpose the name is being used for...

It sucks, especially if your name/catchphrase/greeting is far from being "dirty". But there are a lot of kids who play this game, and I guess people who speak other languages or live in other countries can be offended by some words since certain things can have different meanings in other languages. I think in the last thread about profanity, someone said something about the name Violet and how one part of the word could mean rape in French... (don't know for sure). It's annoying since people have to think of a way to work around it. (like replacing the L in violet to a capital i)

I tried to name my character Violet and didn't realize why it was filtered until about 2 months ago.

What's the bad word? Is it Violet or ****
Yep it's ****

I thought you couldn't name a character Violet because there was a villager named Violet

**** is just a nickname, it isn't a full name. Why doesn't he just put down Rick? It's much better than ****...lol.

It must be annoying to have that name in real life as well, I don't see why you would want to have that name these days.
But Nintendo has to keep that stuff away from the eyes of the many kids playing Animal Crossing. Especially when you have the option of meeting random people at Club Tortimer.

I kind of always wonder the same thing. I mean no offense to anyone named Richard, you can obviously choose whatever nickname you want. But Richard is nice name, so if it was my name, I wouldn't shorten it at all. Much less to a nickname that has a meaning most people would think of.

Anyway, I appreciate Nintendo's efforts to keep the game clean...but at the same time, censoring, ugh. It reminds me of what happened with the stupid swap notes thing. Just when I was starting to use it, they made it basically useless. For the same reason.

As usual though, you can't please everyone. So I understand why they do what they do. Oh well.
