Animal crossing has been my boyfriends special interest for years and years. I picked up my first animal crossing game during the pandemic because it looked like a lot of fun, and there was a lot of buzz around it. Forums haven't really been my thing for quite a while, I dipped my toe into forums once or twice in the past for other games, but I feel just as lost now as i did then. what does everything /do/?

I'm not quite sure what your question means, but I'd love to help if I can! I'll do my best! On the site, there are sections for the different Animal Crossing games.
Assuming you play New Horizons, there is a general discussion board for general chat about the game, an online board (The Airport) if you're looking to visit other islands, Nook's Cranny which is a trading board, the Turnip Stalk Exchange is for turnip prices, and the New Neighbor Network is for trading or giving away villagers.
There are also sections called Brewster's and The Basement, which are for non-AC related chat. The Museum is a place to share art/creative endeavours.
If you're interested in trading items in ACNH, a lot of trading happens using a forum currency, which we call "TBT bells". You earn TBT bells by posting on the forum. I'll find the guide about TBT bells and link it in a minute.

Adding onto this, since they're in the forum they're all text based! Just simple games you can do by typing generally, but they're pretty fun.
