I found Cappy from SMO in Super Mario 3D All Stars!

I don't think anyone can deny that the resemblance is uncanny. Was he also in the original or was this an easter egg that Nintendo added in?

I think that's what the wind sprites looked like on the GC. I don't think they look that similar to Cappy, but any resemblance is probably just coincidental.

I’ve seen those wind spirits before. I don’t think it’s Cappy, but Super Mario Sunshine did accidentally predict Super Mario Odyssey in the level Pinna Park. There’s this strange enemy on the beach that would swoop down and not only attack Mario, but also steal his hat. While they’re wearing a hat, they grow a mustache. Every enemy Mario captures in Super Mario Odyssey grows a mustache when they get his hat.

But that's because they're being possessed by Cappy, not because they're wearing Mario's hat necessarily.
