That is a very very old way, i knew that when i was in the womb, and no its not just up by 10 or 20, you can go up by 1's the only topics that dont show are those that are deleted or in the admin board or one of the little hq's that see less action than a ugly rock. all in all this is the basics of it

well each topic has a certain "Code" if you will, when you post a new topic the code goes up by one, from the last code. if the whole site was 1 url, you couldnt get past the first page doh
