i caught one earlier in a 4x5 pond with rounded edges, if that's any consolationI was wondering.. Will it only spawn in a huge pond? I get other fish but I'm worried my pond is too small lol
Before I made my pond bigger, it would never spawn. I was fishing in a 3x3, 3x4 and 4x4 and nothing. Used 6 bait on a 4x5 pond and got it.i caught one earlier in a 4x5 pond with rounded edges, if that's any consolation
Do not feel so bad. I Ran into Like 8 by misstake due to the darn View of not seeing behind the 1st tree like 7 to 9pm. Then on random island by Lineing up the trees side by side and at took like 9 time on the random island from 9 to 1 am due to getting too close to them flying away when i try to line up my shot. I was Hunting both bugs on the trees and Coconut trees.I haven't been able to catch it either but then there's also the Arapaima that I haven't caught yet.
I might actually enlarge my pond to see if it could make a difference.
Today, I also scared off the Goliath Beetle - the first one I saw spawn so far.
I felt like shooting myself in the knee.![]()
A pond is essentially a small or large enclosed area of water that isn't connected to anything else. Here's a quote from this terraforming guide, which shows what qualifies as a river and a pond:My river origin was supposed to be a pond, but is acting like a river. Aug, I am going to have to fix that to catch this fish.
Anyone know what makes it a pond?
Type of water body
Wait, how does the game know what's a pond and what's a river? Have I just messed up my chances of getting some fish?
Fret not, there is a really easy way to make sure it's recognised as the one you're going for.
River
A river is any body of water which:
- Leads out to sea
- Leads to or comes from a waterfall
- Is a long, narrow piece
If any one of them are true, it will count as a river.
Examples of what counts as rivers
For Clifftop rivers, it will be any that are on level 2 or 3
Ponds
A pond is any other body of water which does not fulfil any of the river requirements.
An example pond
Further proof
If you're still in doubt as to what you have made, cast your rod in there.
- If it stays perfectly still, it's a pond
- If it moves (ripples around one side of it) it's a river.
Still not convinced? Go grab a clam, make some bait and catch a fish, that will prove which one it is by what you catch
Wow, thanks! I thought that it had to have a waterfall above it to be a river. I see my mistake now.I still haven't seen one yet, though I probably missed an Arowana on June 1st due to timing my press a bit too late... I used a ton of bait to catch some of the fish that showed up as of May, but never caught an Angelfish until I casually passed by one yesterday. I'm still missing a few other fish for this month too.

Do not feel so bad It took me like 40 something to find it i thinkI haven’t even started fishing in the pond yet, I’ve done a bunch of river fishing and ocean fishing catching every fish available in each but the pond is gonna kill me off, I need to get a bunch of bait and I’m pretty sure my ponds are too small and since I restarted just under 2 weeks ago I have to wait a bit to unlock terraforming to make it bigger but I’m pretty sure I unlock it in a couple days as my kk slider concert is tomorrow
Did you stay by the Peer and FIsh from at spot? I Know you Pain as it like the song the final Countdown Song when i get down to 10 bait leftI managed to catch one but it did take me 30-40 bait to get it. Way better than giant trevally, which I've no exaggeration used about 500 bait looking for. Still haven't found it. Gonna try again tonight though, since I have to hunt most of the new-to-June ocean fish.
