I just keep hoping for this to be a feature

I really want to be able to place a villager's house where I wish and for them to not freaking move out when I'm AFK cuz I hate when that happens. The latter especially puts stress on me because then I get paranoid about not being able to play the game and when I come back, a dreamy moves out. YES, that has happened before. Gosh darn it, Marshall!

And once we have the ability to place villager houses wherever we want, there wouldn't be any need for plot resetting (which btw I've never done and hardly understood/invested into it).

Just my two cents. PLEASE, NH-

We can choose where they live in New Horizons. :)

Quote from Kyogoku.

"before they choose a spot for their home, they?ll check with you to see if it?s okay. If you don?t like where they settle down you can tell them you don?t want to build in that particular spot and move their house location to wherever you see fit.

Yeah, I would like an option (that is reversible) to make a villager a permanent resident.

That would stop a lot of needless work and worry.

Wait, really?? Oh thank god. No more trampling over my freaking flowers and landscaping! But I still don't want anyone to move out when I'm gone. Also holy heck, I would love for that to be a thing to make a villager permanent. I would pay MY SOUL to make a dreamy permanent.

Yep.
The end to plot resetting.
I hated laying down patterns for half a day!

I added more to my above post. ^_^

That is one thing I have been paranoid about since day one of New Leaf. I had Gaston as a villager, and him being my favorite, I gave him a nice little plot next to my house. Still, if I don't get to play due to work, school or life, I always return with the thought of "Oh no, is the boy gone!?" Followed by me running down my path and chatting him up to keep him. So I have to agree, being able to permanently keep a villager would be the bees-knees.

Well, we are now able to choose where a villager should plot his/her house, however I'm not sure if there will be any ways to let a villager stay permanently on your island to prevent any move outs while you're not playing. Right now, we have only a small bunch of informations about the game, maybe now in the next weeks we will getting more and maybe there will be a way to let a villager stay on your island as long as you want to without being worried that they will move out so quickly.

I'm glad that they've removed the need for plot resetting, but I agree that I would really like for this to be a feature. It's definitely the biggest thing that keeps me from jumping back into the game after taking time off, so if there was some sort of optional feature to stop certain villagers from moving out i'd love that!

Yes! Just a simple option that can be changed of course, to 'make villager permanent'.

Then that villager would never ping!

If you've got all the villagers you want, and checked the (wishful thinking) 'make permanent' option, you would never have to worry about losing anyone, ever again.

You could take a break, or when other real life things demand your attention, you could tend to those, knowing the villagers are pretty much self sufficient. ^_^

I love this ~make permanent~ idea! However I feel some work could be put into it to make it more challanging. Like, we have to have a good friendship with them etc, otherwise the offer to stay permanently will be politely declined by them. This keeps it fun and as if something was accomplished :)

You had to go and make it difficult!

LOL! ^_^

I guess I did, lol! But in reality it is in the spirit of Animal Crossing I feel. It would make it more special to have a BFF stay permanently instead of just any villager.

That's true.
I guess I'd kinda like that with Wolfgang.

He'll always be in any town/island I have. ^_^
He reminds of my german shepherd I had may years ago. He's like an animated version of him.
I get to have a part of him in every town.

Aww bless your dog... It's so admirable to remember a pet you loved like that!
