So, I'm sorry if there is already a thread for this.. but I helped a friend make an account on TBT because she saw me using the website and got interested. She doesn't have a DS so she plays on my DS. I feel like this is okay, but is it okay that she uses my town and goes on TBT through another account? I just don't want to do anything to get her (or me) in trouble :(

That's totally fine, to my knowledge. Using your account on here is another thing, but it doesn't matter what you're up to in-game.

I'm pretty sure you're supposed to let the staff know if you're sharing accounts with someone, though ('cause of IP addresses and all).

Okay, yeah she only goes on her account while she is here with me at my house.. I just really want to get her into the game, but she doesn't have the money to buy her own game lol

That's not allowed because the rules say, "An individual person should only own and use a single account, and an account should only be used by a single person." She should make her own account with her own email address if she wants to join TBT. Please see the Accounts section of the Rules and Guidelines:

Rules and Guidelines - 1.e. Accounts said:
e. Accounts
  • An individual person should only own and use a single account, and an account should only be used by a single person.
  • Account switches are not allowed unless under extraordinary circumstances and must be approved by the staff.
  • If you made more than one account by mistake, please contact an administrator and ask them to disable one of them.
  • You are responsible for what's posted by your account, so be sure to log out if other people use your computer to visit The Bell Tree.

Yes, I helped her make her own account. She isn't using mine, but our characters are in the same town and she only comes on TBT through my computer so I wanted to make sure everything is okay so I don't cause any problems

You still can't make an account for someone else.

She was helping her friend.

She's asking if her friend can use her town and her laptop.

The rules say that they can only use their account and own a single account, though. I'm a little confused as to how that relates to somebody creating an account for you. A seperate account, mind you, with a different email address and all that.

Never been in that position so I can't really talk, but I'm surprised that's disallowed. If anything I thought it would be encouraged because it's free promotion for the site.

As the rules say, you can only use one account. Creating an account is a form of using it. The person who creates the account is also the person who owns it and you can't transfer accounts. The account should be registered by the person who intends to use it. It's not hard to register here and if someone needs help they can email us with the Contact Us form linked at the bottom of the forum.

She is only using one account. She didn't make it, she helped her friend make it. It's not her account, it's her friend's...right?
I'll just leave it at that I really hope I don't get an infraction...for interacting with Admins. :p

She helped her friend as in she probably showed her the website and let her use her computer and walked her through the steps.. How is that an issue?? It's still her friend's account..

Yeah, but like Jeremy said, it's not that hard to create your own account. If you're unable to create your own account, then chances are you're unable to use it properly as well. The issue is if you help someone else create an account, then you probably helped them with their username and password which means you have access to their account and that is the problem.

I mean we don't actually know who typed the information out and pressed confirm and ****
Right?

The friend could have done that?

She just means that her friend will be sharing the same 3DS and copy of ACNL. They both have separate accounts, though. She just told her friend about the site and helped her set up an account for herself. I really don't see what all the confusion is about. The only rule is one account per person so if you both have your own accounts you'll be fine. There is no rule that forbids sharing a 3DS and game copy.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm assuming what you mean by "helped" is that you just told her about the site and how to get around. The registration is a pretty straightforward process.

Yeah, I don't understand how this thread caused this much confusion. Lol. She and her friend are obviously not in violation of that rule :/ I mean, when we create our accounts, are we also supposed to be alone in our rooms and not talking to anyone? Is it wrong to be introduced to this site? It just seems silly.

As you can see from the thread title, she says she made the account for her friend, which is not allowed. Please stop confusing other members by trying to interpret the rules. If you have any more questions, you can post in the private Contact the Staff board. By the way, another thing that's not allowed is creating an alternate account and claiming it's for your friend who will be using the same 3DS, computer, and friend code, and for some reason isn't able to enter their own email address to register an account.
