With all the complaining I made about this game before the 2.0 update I thought I'd be ready for a boatload of content.😬 Made a farm, had a completed catalog including diys and all clothes. I thought I was set. Got updated and tried to decide what to do first. Lets go to Harv's first, but no wait gotta get Brewster, no wait a minute, I need to update storage, but wait again don't forget about the 9000 pieces of new stuff to collect--ooop! Looks like I'm gonna have to start trading again! Heyy, your farm is looking kinda empty btw! Don't forget HHP is coming too, and also remember to get the new cards?? Recipeeees!

I went ahead and tt a few days forward thinking that would help the completion anxiousness but that just made it worse. AC is one of my favorite games of all time, and I always take my time to 'complete' it eventually, but all the other games were mostly independent biomes, whereas NH kinda centers around online trading. So I feel like I can't take my time because what if most people stop playing, and I can't trade? And now I just don't feel like playing.😓

I completely understand that, and its super easy to feel overwhelmed by all this new stuff. I'll admit I was stopped dead when I realised there was nearly ten thousand new items, but remember you really do have all the time in the world right now. New Leaf is almost a decade old and still has a large active online player base so please please try not to overwhelm yourself. New Horizons has literally years ahead of it and you have so much time to do everything you want to do.
With time it will feel manageable, and remember that with new features like Cyrus customisation you'll have the ability to rely on online trading much less.
I hope the stress eases off you!

AC doesn’t center around online trading, not with the new customization features that have been added. There is no reason to rely on online trading and I’m sure Nintendo didn’t think it would get this big. You are honestly will probably enjoy the game more if you don’t pressure yourself to get all the items and take your time.

If that’s how you play the fine, not trying to be flippant…but it’s makes my head spin on how people rush the game by breaking its design (TT’ing) and then say they are surprised they burned out.

Hey, me too! Don't feel bad about it. I thought I wouldn't be able to put it down today but I'm having major brain fog with so much to do, that I really only logged on to plant some crops and dig up the gyroids I planted last night. Play however works best for you.

I understand how you feel. If it's any consolation, I was still able to regularly make trades in New Leaf in 2019/2020, 7 years after it's initial release. This update has a lot of new content -- I think it'll keep people playing for a long while. It'll keep me playing for a while, at least. ^^

I went a day forward. I thought 'hey, maybe if I go forward a little I can get a few things done and take my time with the rest.' But doing that made it worse, because I saw there was always more to do. So I waited for tt time to catch up with regular time, and continued with the same tt day, which is today. Knowing me, if I did what you're suggesting, hopelessness of never completion would set in, and I would drop this game and never come back.

i'll be honest i didn't realise there were so many new items - i can completely understand the feeling of being overwhelmed! i think it's important to just take your time with it, there's absolutely no rush to get everything. and it's especially a bit easier now with reese and cyrus allowing us to customize more items. if it helps i would imagine almost everyone is feeling the same - it's a lot to take in at once after going so long with only small updates here and there!

I am also overwhelmed in the way I don't know where to even start my enthusiasm topic! Is like...hey the update! Now I can finall--wait, what should I be doing first? Oh visit Blather first to get my fossil examined cause he is nearby and I can gift along my islander on my way round and, what? poster for completing my museum? and I have to hunt for Brewster?! (thank god I didn't go to Kapp first else Brewster will not appear) and what now? Oh visit Tom for storage upgrade and what about my house exterior? Ok I'll wait tomorrow then.

After this small exploration I went ahead with my massive NMT business trade and there goes my really busy day 😭 Thank you for the ABD Nintendo, it make lots of player life easier!

With the new update you won't have to rely on online trading unless you want to speed the process up. Animal crossing is meant to be played slowly and you can get all of the items in time by regularly checking ables and nooks cranny. Plus Reese and Cyrus help customize everything. A lot of people play without online trading

adding onto what several others have said - online trading is fun, but it's definitely not a necessity. i actually started playing new leaf . . . 2 years? after it came out, and *no one* i knew was playing (aside from my cousin who introduced it to me). that's how i found this forum - looking for like-minded individuals to help me with things i didn't know about in the game, along with chatting about my now-favourite-game-of-all-time. despite the vibrant community here, i'm a pretty anti-social person, so i only traded when i felt like i had to (turnips etc). with new horizon, i haven't traded at all on the forums, and with the introduction of reese and cyrus (!!!!), i don't see myself having to.

so tl;dr, online trading isn't really necessary. FOMO & hype are hard to quell in the mind, but animal crossing is a lovely game to play at your own pace. i hope you find what works for you, and it'll be easier once the initial update-hype dampers down.

I don't TT forward and don't feel overwhelmed in the least bit.

Sure, if you look at all of the features/furniture online it's a lot, but the game eases you into it. Some things are available right away, but you generally have to take many days to unlock anything like how
Brewster will only come two days after you talk with Blathers then go to the island, or how each RV needs to be unlocked one day at a time, Leif only offers 2 starts per day plus if you find something on Kapp'n's tours which is also only once per day so you can't just cook anything right away
and lets not forget how we still only see 3 pieces of furniture each day.

With HHP we'll have to see how I feel but most likely it'll be unchanged.

Yeah honestly, just echoing what others have said: you'll definitely be more likely to feel overwhelmed if you're TTing.

I had been TTing a lot in the days before the update, but only because I needed to get my island fixed up to a reasonable standard (had recently flattened...again) in time. But there was less to do each day and it was annoying how long everything took and order limits etc when I had a clear plan in my head for things. There's no way I'd be able to cope with TTing now haha. I need to slow right down and go at a natural life pace for a while.

Thanks for the advice everyone! I honestly dunno what the heck happened these past few days, but I've never felt this anxious about any game before, let alone Animal Crossing! I don't normally time travel especially when it comes to new content, because I do enjoy taking my time, but I was trying to help the anxiousness and went like a day or so ahead, which backfired pretty bad and made it worse...which led to this thread.😅 I'm still gonna take up the challenge of completing the 2.0 catalog, but I'm not gonna worry about trading. I'm just gonna wait until some of the sites like nookplaza or something lists everything including what the variants are so I can know what I'm working with and just go from there. 🙂

Just take your time, this is game that’s mean the to be played with patience.

I work full time and go to school full time so I can’t sink nearly as much time into ACNH as I’d like. But with this update adds so much more play time!! I’m very excited to have new things to do even though it’s definitely a little overwhelming, especially if you have time restraints.

good luck! Have fun!

Personally I look at all the new content as a reason to play a little bit every day again, rather than try to experience everything as quickly as possible I'm trying to take my time and make the game last as long as possible

this reminds me of that other thread, where the OP asked if people wanted to take it slowly with the new update. there's no rush to experience it all, just take it in one session at a time. it's not going anywhere, it'll always be there waiting for you to play again ☺

That’s ok! Take a couple of days away from the game, or play like you were playing before the update. I feel the same way. I was dreading that they announced the update so far from when we were getting the update. However now I’m feeling overwhelmed as well. I’m taking it slow and just doing what I was working on before, just fixing some areas on my town, and taking the rest of the new updated one day at a time.
