agreed. i never got to experience them in new leaf since i had pretty much stopped playing by the time they were added, and i’m not really into many of nintendo’s other franchises, but i would’ve loved for them to return in this game. their designs and exclusive items all looked so cool — i bet they would’ve looked even cooler in new horizons’ gorgeous quality.

With so many amiibo, you would think that Nintendo would use that as an opportunity to bring brand new villagers and at the same time market amiibo. It doesn't necessarily have to look exactly like the original characters, they can go the Sanrio approach.

The only problem is that almost all of the amiibo required to get these villagers are no longer being sold in stores; you'd have to look online to get any of them
Even worse, some are actually quite rare and expensive these days; thankfully some have been reprinted (the Squid Sisters for Splat3 is a really good example), but some of the Zelda ones like Wolf Link (the amiibo figure, not the villager) and the Wind Waker series amiibo would cost you a pretty penny assuming you don't just buy bootlegs of course lol

There's rumors of a Zelda series mass reprint though in anticipation of BOTW 2, so maybe once those amiibo are back in circulation and readily available to the general public the Nintendo crossover villagers will make a comeback??

meow is also considered a crossover villager apparently, she would be my #1 choice by far and is my favorite design in the whole series

I'm basically going to go "what @DJ-Mika said" with regards to why they weren't in NH beforehand.

Very glad to see the Splatoon amiibo have been restocked in the UK (and I'm tempted), still very much holding out that they'll restock the Zelda 30th Anniversary amiibo for Tears Of The Kingdom... and yeah, still holding out that they'll do an update for both of them. Especially with regards to Splatoon, because you could do another set of villagers for Pearl, Marina, (possibly) the Octolings, and Shiver, Frye and Big Man (whenever their amiibos get released)... but I'm mainly up for a Splatoon/Zelda update for Splatoon/Zelda furniture and clothing.

In all honesty, if I'm expecting an AC-related announcement in 2023, it's either this or the first tease of the next game in the series. In an ideal world, both. In a horrible world, neither.

It's more than likely not going happen, but when Breath of the Wild 2 releases, it may be possible yet for Nintendo to put them in ACNH. This would boost sells of the LOZ Amiibo figures, and be a small enough update for them to work into Animal Crossing.

It would be really nice to see a few pokemon cross overs in a in the next game honestly. I think they would be mad popular and many of them would work well in design.

I would honestly love Cece on my island. I probably should get her for my New Leaf town as a 'compromise.' It is weird though, that Nintendo wouldn't try to sell more amiibos.

I'm not expecting it at this point but I also wouldn't rule it out.

The Mario Kart 8 Deluxe DLC was announced 4 (or 5?) years after that game came out because Nintendo realized they had such a large install base and could make more money on it. Given ACNH's large install base, I wouldn't be surprised if they aren't completely done with ACNH content.

Since (at the time of the big update) we were expecting new MH, LoZ and Splatoon games, I thought all the related villagers were going to be snuck in with the release of their respective titles.

I'm still surprised the Nintendo ones (Zelda, Splatoon) didn't come back because there would be no licensing issue. I mean, after the Sanrio characters got added in, I expected these to come. It felt obvious. But of course, they never did.

I've never played Monster Hunter, but I love Felyne. I actually imported a Monster Hunter amiibo from Japan to get him in NL. I also would like to see Filly return, only so we could get the 7-11 set back. The 7-11 set is some of my favorite stuff in both NL and HHD. I didn't really care for Filly the villager though.

Sadly though, since Nintendo decided they're done working on this game, we're not going to see them.

Actually there is a pretty easy way to get around the Zelda Amiibo that aren’t being sold any more or are extremely hard to find. I bought a set of NFC cards with Zelda Amiibo info on them off of Amazon and they can be stored in this leather book type case. It has all of the Zelda Amiibo released at the time (Loftwing is the only missing Amiibo). I think I got mine for $20. There are new sets that include the Loftwing. Wolf Link has max hearts when used in Breath of the Wild. So that is the best way to get the Zelda Villagers in New Leaf without spending hundreds of dollars. There are Amiibo cards for other series as well which is how I got the Sanrio set.
