I read on a daily basis. Paper books, ebooks, doesn't matter because words are words and a story is a story.

I was an early adopter of the first Kindle, then went to a Touch, and later to a Voyage. My Voyage is 5 years old now, and I think I will have to replace her. I've noticed the battery doesn't last as long and it gets stuck either in sleep mode or not going to sleep.

I'll keep her as a backup, but it looks like I'll be shopping for an Oasis. On the plus side, I get to pick out a new cover from Oberon (they have the most beautiful leather covers!) and a new skin from DecalGirl.

that's awesome! i have an old paperwhite that i haven't really used in a while... i might have to look into getting that replaced soon.

well, not awesome that your voyage is about to die but... awesome about the oasis haha

I know what you mean. I've been looking at the Oasis since it came out, but while my Voyage was working fine, I couldn't justify it. Plus, I really love the Voyage. If they had continued the model, I'd get a newer one.

I've had two kindle fires, and both are dead as can be. I opened up the newer of the two a while back (fire hd 10), to see if maybe there was a loose connection or something (and alternately to actually replace the battery if that was the issue)...but, that never worked out. Turns out, those kindle fire batteries are kinda annoying to actually replace. Requires removing adhesive, and all sorts of seemingly unnecessary steps. Still...while I did enjoy both of my kindles when they were alive, I can't say too many good things about their lifespan. I'm guessing the ones that are designed just for reading probably last a lot longer than the full fire tablets...but, I'm not sure I could justify buying any kindle products at this point. Just bad luck all around.

My mother had bad luck with the Fire, as well.

I can't complain about my readers, though. My K1, from 2008 worked great. I gave it to a friend in 2011 (and she still uses it), when I bought the Touch. That lasted 4 years of heavy use, and the Voyage has seen 5 years of almost daily use.

If I get another 4-5 years out of the Oasis, and can keep the Voyage functioning for another year as a backup, I'll be happy.

Ah, an avid Kindle user!! It's nice to know folks are enjoying them. c: I hope you enjoy your new one!!

What kind of genres do you like reading? Any recent favs? I enjoy reading but I always love taking recommendations from other people, word of mouth is my favourite way of getting new content pfff.

Hey, have you heard about the new Kindle paperwhite? I'd like to order it. I have a friend who bought it and he likes it. From the beginning, I couldn't see the difference but he shared a site where I read more information about the Kindle paperwhite vs oasis. The new one has 300 pixels per inch and also an improved flush screen. Isn't it great? So I'm really thinking about buying it too. You know soon is my birthday and in case my friends won't buy it for me I'll order it. If you have some recommendations on this point please share them, I'd like to see more opinions.
