i know it will likely never happen, since animal crossing has been around for nearly two decades and you've never had the ability to be an animal before, but wouldn't it be nice to be able to make your own custom animal to play as? you can choose a pelt/skin pattern, a primary/secondary colour for it, and the shape of your eyes and mouth (if applicable)

man i know saying "if applicable" for mouth shape sounds ominous but when i typed that i was thinking about wolves and octopus. the octopus all have their jet as the mouth shape, and wolves just have those jaws. :V gators too.

While I don't think that they gonna change the concept of being the only human in a town full of
animals, I could imagine that maybe Luna could offer at the Dream Suite something like a dream of
where you can be a animal too and see how different it would be. Like you dream of you own town,
but instead of being a human, you can be a animal, and you can choose the design by your own. You
would then see how your villagers would react and so on.

I guess they wouldn't make a option that you could be permanently a animal, since it wouldn't be the
Animal Crossing anymore we know for almost two decades, but something like I mentioned above could
become a thing.

For some reason, I've never wanted to play as an animal. It seems like a pretty common idea in the community though. As for me, I like being the only human. I like dressing up a human more so than an animal, hehe

I wouldn't want to be an animal in the game, but I like imagining what kind of animal I would be if I were one in the game. Does that make sense? I would be the cutest uchi opossum ever.

While playing as an animal would be fun, it's definitely not something that I expect to happen. The whole point is you are a human moving out on your own for the first time living with strangers all around you.

I wouldn’t like this tbh; it’s an interesting idea but it would really take away part of what makes Animal Crossing “Animal Crossing” for me. Being an animal would just feel like a different game

Being a human in an animal filled world is what I prefer. It's like you're alienated in a different area, and feel not alike another. And then you become known with the villagers, and even though you are different, you still fit in.

I think being a human will always be what animal crossing is. Anything different would be off to me.

Nah, would rather retain my individuality as the only human; since they looks so cute!

Heck yeah I'd love to be a Critter! They're great!

Oh, you meant a different kind... Then no. The option should be available, but the human characters are, as others have said, unique to the world and are there for the player to associate with.

furry

no thanks

Ah, this mindset still exists.

No thanks.

Ahahaha! Kinda reminds me of the Gremlins. I'm kinda leaning on to the side of playing as an animal, but I'm not so sure about it considering of how different it would be. Plus, I'm not that creative when it comes to customizations and options could be limited. Maybe it's best to leave the series as is and if it ain't broken, why fix it?

I like this idea, I would totally love it for the sole purpose of maybe getting a chance to be able to interact with the villagers differently, or just having the mechanic to create your own animal villager. It'd also be something totally fresh and new that Nintendo could implement into the game. I mean, there's only so much they can do with the same features over and over again with each new AC game, I think ideas that stretch a bit outside of the basic AC world are nice and fun to think about.
Realistically, IF they were add something of the sort, I could see it as DLC, or as an option for secondary accounts, like how in NL the first file is Mayor whilst the rest are normal villagers.

Nonetheless, whatever new features and mechanics Nintendo creates for the new game will be amazing.

I'm happy just being a human, you really are just like all the animals - because truly, humans are animals! We're just a different type of animal, like there are ostriches, octopus, rhinos, wolves, etc!! Makes it feel more like it's yourself in the game.

A friend of mine and I were just talking about this. We both would love the option to be an animal in the town. Maybe have an option to choose? That way the people that feel more comfortable as a human character can be human and the people that want to be an animal can.
It would make for new types of interactions and that could be really fun.

How about instead of playing as animals, they can give us costumes that cover from head to toe? So if you really wanted to be a cat, you could buy a cat costume. Maybe you could even mix and match parts to make a kind of Frankenstein animal. I can see them doing this. That way way you're still the only human but you can blend in, so to speak. Hehe

This can be remedied somewhat I believe with the new body suit 'typing' in PC where you can wear a suit from the neck down.

I say this because one of the suits so far is an Eevee suit, and that's very animal-like in nature (as animal as Eevee is) has a tail and everything (along with a matching hood)

I wouldn't mind being an animal instead of a human. I would love to see what kind of customization options would be available for that. I imagine we'd choose from one of the existing species and one or two main colors to begin with and then we could visit Harriet to make additional alterations. Of course, that would make the whole Rover conversation sort of null and void, which I wouldn't mind. I've never liked that our character was based on some random lines of dialog.

If we had the option to choose between being a human or an animal, I'm not sure which I would choose. Maybe one of each?
