Like seriously I mean we have a wetsuit and the entire ocean is free to swim around in.
My guess is that since you can easily manipulate your rivers and ponds, the studio doesn't want you to break the game by doing impossible feats.
I mean the only reason I would want to swim in a river is to catch the floating balloon presents.

that would definitely be interesting ❗ i'd enjoy seeing that addition if they ever went for it.
I mean it'd be totally cool and you could probably make more believable pools. however my biggest complaint would probably be if there were fish that were automatically populated and in your pool. I mean koi ponds are great but I don't want to swim with them.

I miss when we could glitch into the river in New leaf. It would be nice if they did add this as a feature, but sadly I don't see it happening.
Oh yeah I totally forgot about that one in New leaf. but I feel like with the wetsuit you should be able to swim around but they could program in boundaries like waterfalls and tight corners.

If it gives me more things to catch, yes please! Could see getting materials like golden nuggets when diving in rivers too. Though, I would just want to swim up waterfalls with the trouts haha.

marine fossils. I really like your gold idea. I wonder what other kinds of minerals could be found in rivers.
Perhaps we could find trash items easier by swimming in ponds and rivers too.

That would be awesome, especially if it was a way to get materials and new creatures. I really like the idea of finding gold nuggets in the rivers. I imagine we would find a bunch of garbage too.

Sounds like a cool idea! I don't think the rivers are deep enough to dive/swim in though. You can see exactly how deep the rivers are if you have a front-facing river mouth and swim close to it while in the ocean. I think if you could wear the fishing waders and walk in the river, it would be a cool mechanic for catching crawfish or river crabs.

I did exactly that in New Leaf :D tbh it made it so much more enjoyable and life-like to me, i mean hell, THEY PROVIDE EVERYTHING YOU NEED for an outfit to do it! I miss "fly casting" in the rivers:(

I would adore this, I've got a huge lake on my island and I'd love to take a swim through it :D Would be a neat little idea for sure, but not one I think they'd prioritize adding, unfortunately-- if ever :/

I highly doubt that they let us ever swim in the river, as already mentioned here a river is not deep enough to swim/dive. Perhaps they could us at least allow to walk in it and therefore unlock new water creatures you could catch like that? Otherwise, I still hate the fact that every pool in this game is just decoration, if only villagers could actually use them like they use certain items in Pocket Camp. It was such a disappointment for me back then to spent so much Nook Miles for that cool looking pool only to find out that nobody can use it. 😔
