Hello Belltree Forums Members,

I have been reading Belltree Forums for quite some time now, although I didn't really have a need to sign up for an account. I preferred reading the posts.

In the recent weeks, I have begun the basic ideas of making an Animal Crossing style game. As I have experience in Computer Programming, I decided to create a game in the style of Animal Crossing in the Python Programming Language for Windows, Mac and Linux.

Although ACNL is a fantastic game, I had some improvements in mind and I've read some on other forums.
If anyone has some suggestions, I'd appreciate them. If any programmers are interested in helping, i'd be grateful :)

Lastly, I've begun a Google Doc of the Game's Mechanics. This document will have how new features work, as well as the existing game functions that will need to be implemented. I'm looking for some ACNL players to make sure the mechanics will work when complete and that new mechanics makes sense. You can also beta test the game too when its ready if you want.

Hopefully this is in the right place, if not I apologize, I have never posted here before.

Keep in mind that I probably won't use the sprites from ACNL as those are copyrighted and I don't have them. The finished product won't be sold as it's OPEN SOURCE and NON COMMERCIAL.

emisenpai12: I'm thinking of using Panda3D as I've already messed around with a demo which has NPCs walking around and has example code for terrain generation... but I'm exploring to see if there are better engines.

at first i thought it was a spambot, but i read and it's not.

sounds cool! hope you get it done soon ^^

This sounds really cool! even though I have a feeling that this would only be on PC or something so I wouldn't be able to play it ;-;

SuperStar2361: What do you have beside a 3DS? I can probably let you know if it will be compatible on the device.

This sounds awesome! Good luck! Just a question: Are you making an actual AC game with villagers and stuff, or is it just that style of game? Also, if the latter, what are the NPCs like? Good luck! :D

I'd be interested. As long as it's programmed well and has good graphics, I'd really appreciate having a PC open world version of Animal Crossing.

I would seriously be interested in collaborating with you on the design. I've been seeking game development experience for a while now, and this would be a great opportunity to get involved, I think. I would not require payment or credit.

I'd be interested as well, this is very cool! Good luck with it, it's definitely a huge work load I'm sure.

Lot's of original dialogue! My main issue with New Leaf is that what the villagers say seems redundant at times.

The game is currently going to be an actual ACNL Game with villagers and the works however what separates it from a standard 3DS ACNL game is that the NPCs will have definitely have much more of a personally, and each character will differ quite differently.

I'd definitely love to have you collaborate on it! I will shoot you and email and we can talk about it further.

Of course, it will have lots of new dialog. The key change is that villagers will all have slightly different personalities and text. T

I have a Wii U and a phone (which is Android... I think)!

Hmm... If you said iPhone i'd most likely rule it out, but if the original development for Windows and Mac go well, I'm considering an Android app you can download. It might take a really really really long time to make though, but I do Android will be supported.

Thanks for everyone's feedback so far! I'll be sure to post a link to the game when it is complete. Again if:

- Anyone is a Programmer and wants to help out(or graphics/design/animation)
- Writer? Probably a little too much to hope for, but you never know if someones interested.

If anyone's interested, just send me an email from my profile page.

I will definitely post some more info to get feedback on during the development and maybe even some early screenshots.

This looks promising! I've always wanted an open-world Animal Crossing game, since they all seem too restrictive in my opinion. Maybe add farming/cooking/more furniture customization as an addition later on? I've always wanted to see that implemented in an AC game, and this way it'll finally be made.

Also it depends what platforms the end result will be on, but I might be interested in trying it once it's ready.

Definitely going to add cooking/farming other features like that. It also will be way more open world than the standard AC games.
Let me know what platforms you have in advanced, so I can let you know if it will be available on launch.

Definitly interesting, I would look at the ACNL forum on here for ideas on improvements, lots of people post about things they would want in Animal Crossing there, some I can think of now would be picking the plots for the villagers, more diverse character customization for playable characters, and then things people liked from HHD so far that they'd like carried over into the normal games are things like being able to pick what villagers wear and getting the ability to decorate outside more. I feel like more customization for everything is something everyone wants.
