Importing Joy-Con from Japan

Hello! I would like to import Joy-Con from the Japanese My Nintendo Store. but I wanted to make sure it was possible, as I know electronics can be complicated due to them having lithium ion batteries.

Does anyone have any experience with sending/receiving Joy-Con controllers via Japan Post airmail? Is sending them to the US possible? I don't speak/read Japanese, so it's hard to find a clear answer on the Japan Post website.

I know the controllers will work on a US Switch, but I’m trying to investigate the importing process.

Thank you!

From what I can tell after reading through a bit of the JP site and a Reddit thread, it is possible, but 1) the package requires a special label, and 2) you'll need a proxy address, since the My Nintendo Store only delivers to addresses in Japan. I'd look into a proxy service first, then ask them if they'll ship them. Also, you can only ship two lithium ion batteries per package, from what I found, meaning if you're planning on ordering more than one set of joy-cons, they'll need to be separated into two packages.

Ah, thank you so much!! I’ve been reading into international mailing customs (you know, and one does), and it definitely seems fine. I think the real issues comes with the transport of large amounts. It’s only one set, so I think I’m good!

I bought a set of Joy-cons from Japan back in 2017. It was either from AmiAmi or PlayAsia. I got them in the mail perfectly fine. I’m in Canada.

I’m not sure about right from Japanese Nintendo store though, as I’m pretty sure they don’t ship outside of Japan so a proxy like what was mentioned by another user would be required. I didn’t need one for the site I used though.

Ooh, good to know. Thank you! And yes, I have a way of forwarding them. I wish I could order directly, but a generous friend in Japan is helping me out!

US customs doesn't care if you buy stuff with lithium ion batteries from Japan. It's no big deal. I haven't bought Joycons from Japan, but I have a Playstation Vita that I imported from Japan.
