I'd like to see this feature return, because I literally just remembered it was a thing in New Leaf and nobody ever talks about it but it was such a promising idea. I'd like to see it fully realised - I think a scuba diving minigame would be fantastic as another way or alternative to the way we collect sea creatures. A limited amount of time to swim around underwater picking up creatures and shells and treasure before we have to come up for air - maybe only on the island. Also, I would love to see swimsuits added alongside the wetsuits we already have so that at least we aren't forced into wearing something ugly while diving! I also think it would just be nice to have more things to do while swimming rather than it just being for collecting sea creatures. An occasional summer swimming race against animals, or an official swimming festival on the first day of summer? It would also be nice to be able to bring out floaties and be able to take nice pictures while relaxing out at sea. <3

Swimming and diving felt clunky and laborious in New Leaf. The feature is a good idea and all, but it could certainly do with improvement.

Maybe you could be able to put in something like a diving board on the top of one of your cliffs.

Oh my god. Now I want to unlock the special mermaid equipment which lets you breathe underwater, gives you a beautiful mermaid tail, and then you can meet the Tom Nook's cousin - a greedy seahorse? - who would sell you an underwater house made of corals and seashells, and you can have a secondary village underwater.

I missed underwater features in Breath of The Wild, so I would love so much to see it in the next AC.

In New Leaf, at first, I loved the idea of swimming and then, the gameplay was actually not that cool and felt pretty laborious. I really wish that they would enhance the whole swimming experience with minigames, exploration, etc.

I love swimming.
I'd like to see more realistic diving and underwater life.
To see what you're catching instead of a shadow.

I'd love to see a coral reef area in your town's ocean that you can see through the water. You could collect different kinds of sea life there and it would be pretty. Maybe a chance to find underwater treasure like a special furniture set?

I like how swimming/diving is now. I don't want them to over complicate it, but I would like a mechanic that is more effective than pressing the swim button over and over until my fingers hurt. But I would like to see it make a return, maybe a few new critters to collect.

I had such high hopes for swimming when I saw it in the trailer for New Leaf for the first time. My mind was blown when I saw the player jump into the ocean. But honestly, I almost never swim in my town. It feels a bit chunky and the diving aspect does not feel exiting to me. I would not know how to improve it tho.

I liked the diving feature but if they'd polish it a little more that would be awesome. Diving for rare and therefore fast moving creatures was very clunky and difficult to do.

I definitely want improvements to swimming. Like a lot of folks, I was excited when it showed up in the trailer, but I only ever do it now when I have to for some MEOW coupons.

Maybe a better control scheme that doesn't involve button-mashing, maybe give us more freedom on where we can do it... I'm not exactly sure how it could be made better, but it needs work.

At the absolute least, remove the need to be wearing a diving suit just to swim. Maybe keep it for deep-sea diving, or make it a bonus upgrade that gives you longer underwater, but needing diving equipment just to swim normally is a massive pain. I only have so much letter space to store my tools in, and having to either sacrifice a precious inventory slot or run back home every time I want to catch something is probably the main reason why I hardly use diving.

swimming was one of the main features of new leaf that made me beg my mom for it. i'd like to be able to swim deeper underwater and explore. how cool would that be? if they do make this a feature i bet you it would look similar to how the undersea terrain looks in pocket camp

If you can dive deeper in this game, make it to where you can find lost, ancient, valuable relics that you can keep, donate to the museum or sell them to a new npc that collects rare and valuable items for a huge profit.

I hope they'll rework the controls! Having to press a button every time I want to move a little bit forward is annoying.

Swimming is a pretty cool feature in NL, though I agree with the others in feeling it's a bit clunky.

As for improvements, I would like to be able to swim faster and to more interesting places. You can't really swim "to" anywhere, just farther into the ocean. Because of that, I sort of feel like there's not that interesting of a goal you can achieve besides diving for underwater items, which is a whole different story. I also would like to swim without having to press a button over and over again!

As for additions, I'd love to actually see what it looks like in the ocean, and be able to collect different items and furniture. It would be so cool if there was an Atlantis-type location you could explore and meet new NPCs.

Being able to purchase swimsuits would be nice, too! They would look so much more flattering on the character instead of wet suits. Personally, I think there's only one or two that look decent I also wish they were a bit easier to get.

It would be nice if they add scuba gear to the game so you can swim deeper and longer. I said on another thread that flippers for faster swimming would be nice.

Personally, I hope diving for sea creatures gets a complete overhaul. Instead of the system of shadows, they should follow the lines of Pokemon Ruby/Sapphire, where there are deep spots that you get to dive in to see everything underwater! From there, you get to view a beautiful reef, teeming with fully visible sea creatures that you get to catch with a special net.

This would be countless times better than what we have now.

It was slow as ****. I feel like they could have sped up the animations for diving too.

Maybe you could be able to put in something like a diving board on the top of one of your cliffs.

PWP Idea #456874557 :p

A vast improvement would be letting me press and hold the swim button and not have that be insanely slow.

I'm sure how they could go about improving swimming and diving, but it certainly could use a better system. Trying to look for diving creatures for an extended amount of time was a bit of a pain given it's existing control scheme.

I would be happy if there would be the option to swim faster. Sometimes, trying to catch a sea
creature is almost impossible if they swim so fast away while you swim so slow that you have no
chance to catch them at all, except they are right next to you. Also like the idea of the coral reef
that got mentioned here.
