Set during a Steampunk Victorian era. Opalite is a bustling city of invention and industry ruled over by the Queen and the royal family. However, the city would soon be swept up in chaos as friction grew between the humans and the races of supernaturals that lived among them. While some humans saw the supernaturals as equals and even friends, others saw them as mindless monsters and treated them with distrust or even hate.
There were the vampires. Undead humans who were changed into vampires by having another vampire kill them then bite them. They have enhanced strength and speed as well as each having their own unique ability. Their weaknesses include burning in sunlight, being staked, decapitated, as well as their own bloodlust as not feeding for too long can result in their abilities being weakened and eventually starving. Luckily vampires can buy animal blood to be fed without killing. However, purchase of animal blood costs money and it's not unheard of for poor vampires to turn to murder when in a hazy starving frenzy. Vampires are also capable of regeneration, but regeneration takes time and being too badly damaged before they can regenerate can kill a vampire.
And there were the werewolves. While many werewolves were changed by another werewolf via a bite or scratch, many are pureblood, meaning they were born a werewolf. They can shift into their wolf forms at will and their wolf forms are much stronger than vampires, have better senses and have great speed and endurance. However, these abilities are much weaker when in their human forms, even more so for those who were changed rather than pureblood, and unlike vampires, werewolves in human form can be killed the same way as humans can. Other weaknesses include a silver bullet, which can cause a werewolf in wolf form to shift back to their human form if hit if it doesn't kill them, and shifting into a wolf takes energy, so a weakened werewolf will be stuck in their human form.
While werewolves and vampires can be friends, they're often at odds with one another as vampires see wolves as being lowly mutts and werewolves seeing vampires as arrogant.
Despite the Queen trying to keep the peace, tension between the races erupted and sides began to form: Those, such as the military or the aristocrats, who are ever loyal to the royal family, the vampire rebellion known as the Ruby Alliance who felt that only vampires were deserving to rule Opalite, the group of werewolves fighting for respect known as the Emerald Clan, the Quartz Society who believe that all races are equal and should be treated as such and those who take no sides called the neutrals.
