i currently have a regular 3ds, and im considering getting an xl, but im worried that the picture will look stretched or blurry. does the game still look HD on an xl?

i don't think there's a difference. the game reverts it back to the original size anyways. if you plan to download the photo onto a phone, i'd say to sharpen the picture with filters. honestly, none of the ds cameras are good, but the camera quality does not look worse with the xl.

I have an xl and it looks just fine to me. It's really great, especially compared to the other animal crossings.

i mean the quality of the game itself, rather than screenshots. im worried that the game will look blurry or low quality when running on a larger screen than it was originally intended for

ah, good to know! thank you

I love my XL. Picture is perfect, no stretching. My husband has the regular one and I'm just like wow how tiny!

I play New Leaf and Happy Home Designer on the 3DS XL, but there isn't any big differences between the screen resolution of that and a regular 3DS. I personally like to play on the 3DS XL just for how easy it is to look at your screen, so much so that after playing on it for 2 years, it now surprises me on how small the screen of a regular 3DS is.

I've played acnl on an original 3ds, an xl and a new 3ds XL.

The resolution is the same across all 3 - I think - so on the bigger screen the edges of things can look a little jagged/pixilated.
But the picture is not stretched.

The smaller screen of the 3ds gives a clearer sharper picture - but I find it far too small for me to play without strain (especially as there is a fair amount of text to read).
I like playing the game on the new 3ds xl as the colours seem deeper/more saturated. The resolution is the same, no better. The 3d is better, if you like playing with the 3d on (I don't).

If you are looking to buy then maybe look at the new 3ds - if you can get for a reasonable price - slightly bigger screens than the original 3ds but smaller than the XL versions.
You would need to have a look at one before deciding.

Sometimes there are some great bargains to be had on the original 3ds XL. If money isn't of primary concern then I would check out both the new 3ds and the new 3ds XL. and decide between them.

I have the New 3DS and it's a great balance. I prefer images sharp, so smaller screen in better in my opinion. But I haven't tried the XL, so I don't know if it looks fuzzy on it.

The 3DS XL doesn't have HD quality, but neither does the regular 3DS. I know I considered buying the Animal Crossing 3DS XL, but I didn't and played on my regular 3DS instead - partially because I was afraid the quality would be worse, and the XL was quite new.
I'd say go for the XL if the regular is too small for your hands and you'd like a bigger one, but not if you want a bigger one to see things better on the larger screen - it'll likely be a bit worse than the regular screen.

All 3DS models have the same resolution; 400x240 for the top screen and 320x240 for the bottom screen so there's absolutely no stretching like when you play an original DS-game on a 3DS.

yeah, as others have mentioned the resolution is the same. larger screens don't automatically mean more pixels (nor does smaller mean less, just look at all the smartphones on the market after all!)

at most it'll be more "pixely", due to the larger screen size meaning larger individual pixels, but the difference here is extremely negligible. and I highly doubt many people would even take notice of this, much less be bothered by, unless they were actively looking for or an extreme videophile

honestly, the difference is far more noticeable when playing older DS titles imo, simply due to the lower resolution (256x192) and graphical quality of those titles. but even then, its nothing really horrible

I own the original 3DS and 3DS XL. I have noticed a difference in terms of the image and pixels when playing both consoles, but there's nothing to be concerned about -- there's only a slight difference. I tend to play on my 3DS more often as I find it easier to transport with it's small size. Other than that, I love both consoles and one is just as good as the other.

On a side note I recommend getting the 3DS XL, at least then you'll have two different consoles; one big and one small. It's great to have a mixture of the two! :)
