Is it just me, or do other older AC players really enjoy the cranky villagers now. As a kid when I played AC I disliked the cranky villagers. They were mean and nasty. Now, as I am older, I appreciate characters such as Limberg and grizzly for the their wisdom. The cranky villagers are the philoshpers and "wise mean" of the game. I guess that's how I feel, anyone else?

No, I don't... I liked the cranky villager for actually being cranky. In my opinion, the watered down personalities is one of the few things I don't care for about NL.

This. I actually liked the crankies MORE before NL. Now they feel so generic and boring.

May be true for other people, but not me!

I used to LOVE the cranky villagers, but now I HATE them. I'm way into the lazy villagers now. :)

I honestly still like the peppy, snooty, and normal villagers--and I've been playing for 5 years now. Cranky villagers always rub off the wrong way, but that's probably because I don't like those people IRL.

My favourite are Cranky villagers! They make me smile with their talks sometimes.

I'm with the group that doesn't like crankies as much in NL. They're just sort of....disgruntled now. They were so funny when they were really cranky. I <3 Twirp!

When I first played Population Growing, one of my first villagers was Camofrog, who was a cranky villager. I adored him so much and he was my dad figure in the game. He never struck me as a rude character. He was just an older character who got irritated at my childish antics of running around, hitting people with my net on accident, and trampling flowers.

I still like Cranky villagers now... but I kind of miss that edge they had on their personalities. They went from stern dad type to 'that one guy who is like 5 years older than everyone but keeps making jokes like he's super old'.

I wish there was like a database of all the possible personality dialogue somewhere so I could go back and read the dialogue of each personality to compare them to today.

The crankies in New Leaf aren't really cranky.
My snooty Violet, is not even mean. She is a sweetheart.

I miss my villagers making me feel worthless.
Even in Wild World my peppy Agent S called me ugly. I love it.

they've been watered down i guess but i seriously love them

i reaaaaaally miss monty because of his personality

I always liked the crankies, even before I got old ;) That's what started my love of Chief. I agree they are more disgruntled in NL than truly cranky, though.

I used to think cranky villagers were mean and loved making people feel bad for their own entertainment. But Octavian completely changed my view of them. He was in my WW town and still is, and lives very close to me. Cranky villagers are just depressed, and deep inside, they're great villagers to know.

I think that as we grow older, we accept the cranky villagers because it seems that we are more related to them than we may think. Now I know that this sounds stupid, and believe me I have been told that the way I process things in my mind are not normal in any way shape or form.

But from what I can gather, as we grow older we grow more cranky... in a sense. I mean, in 2002 when Animal Crossing first came out, personally, I was in second grade and I was more along the lines of say.... Cheri, you know that peppy type attitude all the time. But now that I'm older I shy more towards the lifestyles of say.... Kabuki. Yes, I will deal with society but I am more often than not the type of person who would want to hit them in the face ... with a metal chair ... off a cliff. Not really but you know what I mean, right?

I also think that the way you were affected in school has an affect on your take on your villagers personalities, but I think that that should be another story for another time. haha.

Happy Crossing!

I don't remember too much of the first game, but from what I remember, the crankies always seemed really mean. There's a good and bad side to the new personality, I think. The good news is they aren't as offensive anymore to some people. The bad news is that now most personalities are sort of generic. They don't as specifically stick out for being a certain personality as they used to. That being said, I don't really have a problem with the new personalities.

I liked the crankies back when they were actually rude. Now I think the lazies are better.

Cranky types bothered me a bit when I was younger (especially because the animals were all meaner as a whole) but yeah, now I like them! I don't mind the watered-down aspect TOO much, but I totally feel what you're saying, Puddle! I love when Hoopper gives me some actually cranky dialogue. Like when I answer "penguin" when he asks what animal he would be, he gets pretty salty lmao

I also really like the Uchi types for their blunt honesty. (I think the main thing I notice is that the Peppys went from "the only nice girls" in the GC version, to kinda weird "are they self conscious or are they conceited?" personalities now. I still like them, but sometimes their dialogue seems like it should actually be for the Snootys!)
