The first several times I was like yaay, guess I'm good at discerning the style of ac clothing... Then she gave me one I had no idea what to do for and I was sure I was gonna flunk, but nope, "That's the perfect [x] look" as usual. I got suspicious and asked my friend, and they've never had Label reject their outfit either.

Soo... is it even possible?

I would think so, but I have never failed. It is a bit interesting to see how easy it is to pass fashion checks now. Maybe that can be seen as Label not being as much of a shark in the industry as Gracie, though. Therefore, she isn’t as tough. Either way, I hope Gracie makes a prompt return.

According to the Companion Guide, as long as you at least wear the item she gives you, you'll at least pass the test. If you wear at least one more item according to the theme, you'll get the Labelle item. However, it seems like most clothing items have multiple themes, so it's easier to stumble into wearing something correct as long as you follow her "just wear something that goes along with the given item" advice. I'm pretty sure that in NL, clothing only had one theme.

Yes. My dad did lol. He still got tailors tickets but no labelle item

She’s never failed me, but once I got 2 tickets instead of the usual 3 and she seemed a lot less excited.

It's definitely possible period I don't always like using what she gives because some things just don't work out. In my opinion, for the theme period I just got my first fail today.

I never intentionally tried to fail, but I could never pull off a "goth" theme until I got Jack's robe and head. Like others have mentioned, I only get one coupon in the mail if I don't get a perfect score, but it doesn't really happen these days if I decide to do it, as I got the "perfect score" outfits down.

In New Leaf and City Folk, Gracie would harshly judge your fashion sense if you showed an outfit to her that she didn't fully like. As Labelle is more of a "designer-in-training" type character, she's much less harsh, and won't even straight up make fun of your outfit regardless of how bad it is. I'm willing to bet that since her sisters are very friendly characters (except Sable when first talking to her) - and that they try to keep in touch as a family overall - it was a good decision in my opinion for Labelle to be doing fashion checks in this game.

If Gracie were still doing it, her snootier-than-usual attitude would have to receive a MAJOR overhaul in order to make her appear less of a mean character, and I think Nintendo couldn't figure out a way to keep her in the game as is without upsetting children (unlike Resetti - Nintendo's official lore states that he got laid off at the Reset Surveillance Center, and subsequently took the Island Rescue job alongside Don. As the game uses an auto-save feature for the first time in the main series, this makes total sense).

tl;dr - You can fail, but Labelle won't make fun of you like Gracie in the earlier games.

Now you've mentioned this, the next time Label turns up on my island, I'm deliberately going to try and fail to see what she says! 🤣
