Is the switch console just as portable as the switch lite?

What is the difference? I have a switch lite and ive never seen a switch console.. i was wondering if i can bring the switch console everywhere just like the switch lite.. i wont have power where im going out on a boat so im hoping i can recharge it on shore and bring it back to play the switch console on the boat that way but im unsure if thats somehow not possible..

The switch is also quite portable, but is also larger than the lite

here is the size comparison:

personally I like the switch and the flexibility, not sure if the battery is better on the lite though. when carrying in a bag I probably wouldn't notice a difference.
I don't own a lite though!

Is it rechargable? Can you play it with the joycons off as a controller without a tv using the little screen like a tv on a stand?

The switch console looks like it would break easier..

Also do i need a memory card for it?

yes, it recharges via usbc

yes you can detach the joycons, there's a little kickstand so you can prop it up on a table

I don't know about durability but havent had issues.

you can put a memory card in it since by default it has rather limited storage space. but optional unless you buy a lot of large games digitally

It’s very portable the only difference is size and it being able to be played on tv really. I have the regular switch and I take it to a lot of places with my friends!!!

They're both portable, especially if you have the travel bag for them. The switch lite is, actually a lot lighter when it comes to weight, though. Also smaller and easier to shove in pockets i guess.

if you're trying to decide between the two, go for OG switch. better for two-player and you can get new joycons if your break. plus, bigger screen and buttons. Just a preference of mine, but you do as you please :)

echoing the above sentiments that are partial to the OG switch. yes it’s just as portable! it’s definitely one of the best purchases i’ve made tbh, i’m in love with the versatility of it. there’s also more room for customization: mix n match joy-cons, switch out backplates, so many cases etc. not to mention certain games require the joy-cons and tv setup for maximum enjoyment! mario odyssey is definitely one game i’d say loses a LOT of its luster when played on the lite vs. console switch. my boyfriend has the lite and while he does enjoy it for convenient gaming he’s planning on investing in the console version as well because you can just do so much more.

If you put it in a hard case (which you should), then I don't really see the Lite as any more portable than the standard. Either one is going to be something that you need to actively lug around. It's not like the Lite is pocket-sized or anything. Also, if you want multiplayer games on the go, it makes more sense to have the standard system with the detachable joycons...otherwise, you're also gonna need wireless controllers, which would make it less portable anyway...IMO

It's just as portable and to be honest I just like it that the original has more weight. For multiplayer when traveling it's also ideal that you can take of the controllers.

(But the biggest plusside for me is that I can just put it in the dock at home and play on the tv :) )

No, it's not as portable. It's still portable but it's definitely bigger and heavier.

The switch has everything as the lite, only difference is the screen is bigger, you can take controllers off the screen without needing tv, there is a micro SD card in the console that you can replace, there is a stand for it in tablet mode, joy con are the same and you can turn them into a switch pro mode, you can use any switch controller for tablet mode or TV, console is bigger. And l'm in a rush, so l can add more when l'm not.

For me, it’s just as portable since I don’t have pockets large enough to fit a lite (where can girls can large pocket pants?!) so I need to put it in a bag anyways. I carry an external battery pack and have a case for the lite and for my regular switch.

The lite is definitely easier to play handheld bc it’s lighter but I like the screen on the regular one better so when I go on long trips, I still bring the regular one. I 100% prefer the regular one more since it is portable (albeit heavier) and better at home

It's not 100% similar, but I most certainly see no reason to get a Switch Lite if one already has a Switch, because the original Switch is fine as a handheld.

The regular Switch is still portable but it does get heavy to hold sometimes. It's heavier on the right side compared to the left so holding it can feel sort of lopsided and it gets hot at the back after 30mins of playing. The screen size is nice though.

not sure if the battery is better on the lite though.
The battery was improved from the original Switch to the Switch Lite. However, it was improved even more in the Switch v2 (the second iteration of the full console) that was released last summer. They may (and probably will) release a Switch Lite v2 with the updated battery, but currently a brand new Switch will have better battery life than a brand new Switch Lite.

The regular Switch is .88 lbs (400 grams) with the Joycons attached. The Lite is .61 lbs. I don't own a Lite, but I will say the regular Switch is definitely the heaviest portable console I own. That's about how much an old Sega Game Gear with AA batteries in it weighed.

I do use it in portable mode, but because of the weight I don't really like to.
