Is there a way to get rid of the clothing you give your villagers?

Well, I got a villager from someone else recently and they gifted them a couple of clothes, I honestly am not very fond of them, is there a way to get rid of the clothing for good? Or do I just keep giving them clothes for them to stop wearing them lol

I think you can talk to Isabelle, and she can reset their clothes and catchphrases. I've never tried it, though.

The clothes only reset for a little while but they do end up wearing it again ^^
