I would like advice on the placement of islander houses at the moment I have 5 areas that are mini housing spots for my islanders. But I am now starting to find that I might actually like to have them all in the same spot. If I do end up moving them somewhere do I put at the very back of my island or near the residential services building??

I feel like if I move them to one specific area then I will have more room to decorate with.

What have you done with the placement of islander houses I need some help :(

All of my residents live on the boardwalk, though I wouldn't suggest moving them so close to the airport as they like to stand in the doorway and stop people from entering my island sometimes lol

This is a lovely map thank you for sharing I love how neat it looks right now my map has little houses everywhere.

I’m trying to move certain houses and when I talk to Tom it brings up the name of islanders that I can ask and it’s always the same ones. Does it ever change to the other islanders?

I did this with their houses.
I know the ones on the bottom look like they could all be part of the same area, but either side of the bridge are distinct housing districts.

Personally I like smaller housing areas.
This is because I like order. It feels too chaotic and illogical for me when houses aren't grouped together in any way.
But at the same time, I like as much of the island to have reasons to go to as possible, so grouping them all together takes away from this.
Also, villagers often hang out around the area where their house is, so if all the houses are in one area, villagers aren't seen hanging out in lots of the island.

Those are just my thoughts on house placement :)

I'm confused what you mean?
He lists all 10 villagers on the same screen.
It doesn't rotate as it should show all of them

I personally would not say i have them all in one tiny spot but i most certainly have them in one area, for me its my far right corner of the map or at least towards that area. My villagers homes are in a specific area but spread around that area so it looks a bit more random. I like it, i think i might make chances over the years to come to my map ( as more updates, brewster etc. come ) however the overall vibe and distribution i like and will leave it as it is i guess. I still think the island is a bit too small to do too much with it to begin with tbh

What i did is place my villagers in an area and then like somehow a little tiny in plaza that connects the “city” and the residential area so to say

I keep telling tom I want to move a house and when he asks me who I want to move I can not see all the islanders just the same ones.
That I have already moved :(

I've googled it and it seems if you've never spoken to the villager they won't be listed.
So many if you talk to them and try again they'll show up

I have two islands. On one island they are all together. On the other they are more spread out but in groups of 4, 4 and 2.

I have a mix, one residential area on the 2nd level and the rest are scattered on the ground level.

I did like the convenience of the houses close together early in the game to get the diys, but I love personalizing the yards for some villagers so that took up a lot of space. But Julia is an heiress so her yard space has to be the biggest lol. Sherb & June's houses look very beachy so they feel perfect near the sand & ocean.

I did a LOT of relocating last year, basically I'd move a house around to see if it 'feels' right so I don't always have a specific vision for it, just play around til I'm happy, a 'gut feeling decorating method' lol.

I took my time with the second island. Planned it out better then my first. It took a couple tries to get it lined up correctly. I also redid the path a few times since it didn’t line up. I might end up moving one of the houses since it is one tile off.

It’s so pretty I hate mine I’ve nearly moved them all but the gardens around my housing area are nothing like yours.

Thank you It took awhile to get it right but now I’m glad I took the time. I’m sure you will figure out a way to make them the way you will like them. Sometimes just takes some time. I left all my houses on the beaches and to the left of my map while I planned it all out. Then only moved the houses in when I finally liked how it looked.

Well..... I used to have mine all in a neighborhood, to make room for decorating other areas, but ran into things that bothered me. The villager homes don't all look good together, so even if I had aneighborhood theme I liked, some of the houses just didnt seem to fit in.

Also, I realized that while it was easier to visit all the villagers, I didn't really spend any time enjoying the other areas of my island. Almost like I stopped having a reason to visit non-inhabited areas.

After many (many, many) do overs, I have finally decided to spread out the villagers all over the island. I'm designing different areas, and putting them where their home exterior will match the decor lol. So, Benjamin will live in the swamp, Boots is by the river, Drago gets the bamboo scene, Puddles the cute tropical by the beach vibe etc.... I've just started on this separate-the- neighborhood redo, but so far I like it. I only wish I'd known which way I'd like it in the beginning, before all of those costly house moves! (Really, they've been moved. A. Lot.) And it's probably going to take me forever to design each area, let alone figure out transitioning the areas...lol.
