Items outside for display vs items for pickup? Multiplayer thoughts

I traded a lot with other people in New Leaf. Of course, the common way to trade items is to drop them on the ground.

Have we seen yet if we can have items on the ground (similar to before, showing up as a leaf) instead of it displaying as decorations?

Also, if they do have those separate, it would be neat if items displayed as decorations could be blocked from pickup in multiplayer. It would be annoying if someone grabbed your furniture that you had out in some cool display to try to steal it.

there is - when you select an item, there’s a ‘place’ and ‘drop’ option - the drop one would be for items you intend on trading where as place would display the item

I'd prefer some sort of trade window where each sides enters the trade, drags their item to a defined area, then both have to click agree for the transaction to be completed.

I think most likely there will be a new trading mechanic. With bells and items. No more picking up in other peoples towns. An ATB transfer or a item transfer will initiate instead of pickups

That would be great, especially if we can do item transfers. During maybe the first year of New Leaf's existence, people here on TBT accepted in-game bells for items. But now it's so hard to find people willing to do that. People generally either trade TBT for items (mostly), or items for items. If you could do item transfers, then it should still work out OK to trade TBT for items.

Yes please!

With friends its nice to just drop items or bells, but with strangers? They don't need to visit. Just put the agreed items into a "box" or something and send it off. No visit needed.

A trading window would be nice and don't get me wrong, putting items on the ground to trade for and have someone to pick it up is fine, but a trading window would be nice to have. It would definitely make trading anything with other players a lot easier, whether it be bells or items.
