But what about people like me who still play casually? That'd be a pain and starting over is one of the two things that ruins the Animal Crossing games for me. Starting over and Hacking/Receiving Items from hackers.

I can't believe it's been a year when I got the game. I got it on launch day, and I remember it very well. That was a good day. I also remember watching ACCityFolk's videos on youtube before it came out, I was craving gameplay footage like mad! But after it came out, I lost interest in that channel and played the game obsessively until about August.

I got it the day it came out, and it just got boring. They need to make the new one exciting, running around watering flowers, catching pixel fish and bugs, and being punished if you go on holiday for 2 weeks is just a pain. It was better portable, then you could get everything done on it even if you went away.
