Back when The Phantom Menace came out, people were excited for a new Star Wars trilogy, but were ultimately disappointed, with an annoying character named Jar Jar Binks being the primary reason why people didn?t like The Phantom Menace. Even if it weren?t for Jar Jar Binks, the movie still gets an F because of other problems. But now that Star Wars has been plagued by franchising flaws (such as The Force Awakens being an Episode IV remake), and that it?s been a long time since the release of TPM, the Jar Jar hate has became more irrelevant. So here?s a question I have for you. Do you still hate Jar Jar Binks, even after Star Wars has several new problems, or have you finally moved on from hating him?

Jar Jar seems out of place. I don't know. I don't mind Star Wars being a bit silly, but Jar Jar takes it to a whole other level. And he's there for pretty much the entire movie. I suppose it could have been ok if had been given a smaller role. Either way, as someone who isn't really into Star Wars, it's not something that keeps me awake at night.

What gets me is all the hate for the ewoks. That's completely unjustified imo. They were the highlight of the third movie (episode VI).

he deserves EVERY BIT of venom directed at his thot face. Don't @me

jar jar was stupid but dont direct any negativity to the actor who played him, he had a rough time with the terrible press. it was george lucas' fault for writing a terrible character.

i've never watched star wars but, due to having a bunch of friends that love star wars, i can see that people absolutely loathe jar jar.

all i can really say is you can hate the character as much as you want but, please don't go after the actor, ahmed best. he really doesn't deserve it.

George Lucas got criticized by many fans for creating Jar Jar Binks. He was also criticized for coming up with midi-chlorians, putting Hayden Christensen’s force ghost in Return of the Jedi, tampering the Greedo scene to make Greedo shoot first, and for adding aliens in Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. They even came up with the phrase “pulling a George Lucas”, which means to ruin a popular work of art you made.

jar jar was cringe, he added it for the young children fan base but it just backfired lol

I didn't really hate him back then when the Phantom Menace came out in 99, but I like how everyone else did lol It sort of became a meme back then to hate on him lol

no and i never hated him he was the funny character in the franchise which was really needed

What about the porgs? Some people found them to be annoying too.

If there’s a reason to not like that third movie, it wouldn’t be because of the ewoks. Most of the movie is boring, and the battle scenes on Endor felt much slower than the Battle of Yavin (Episode IV) and the Clone Wars (Episode II).

I know I am the minority here on this topic, but I am honestly indifferent about Jar Jar and I actually liked Episode I of the series (Episode III is my absolute favorite though while Episode II is my least favorite). Quite honestly, I think the new Disney-created movies are the worst of the series for so many reasons.

Even though the movies are good for the most part, I think playing Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic I & II is the way to go (especially if you play KOTOR 2 with the restored content mod) to truly experience and appreciate the Star Wars series as a whole due to the increased depth and clarifications of many aspects of the series that the movies did not address! :)

Yeah, I really enjoyed the prequels. I think they get more hate than they deserve. As for Jar Jar... long live our sith lord.

Definitely, I do think Episode II could have been far better though if they toned down the relationship aspect of the movie and made it far less cringey (quite honestly, it just took away from the rest of the movie). Other than that aspect of Episode II, it is a good movie for the most part! :)

I also find that theory of Jar Jar being a Sith Lord very interesting as well!

I am in the minority, I know, but I absolutely ADORE Jar Jar! I love him. I've been called crazy for this, but he is absolutely one of my most fav characters. I just don't get the hate. I just never will.

Do you want to know where the Jar Jar sith lord theory originated? It came from reddit back in 2015 in response to some troll video someone made. After Disney released the official trailer to The Force Awakens, some troll modified it by putting Jar Jar Binks everywhere (as well as George Lucas instead of Han Solo and that modified force ghost scene in Episode VI). Since Jar Jar was depicted as a sith lord, people started coming up with that theory.

Eh, I mean they look cute enough but I think I'll withhold judgement until I've actually seen episode VIII.

Might regret getting involved, because I am in the "there are two-and-a-half enjoyable Star Wars films" camp, but Jar Jar's press is not a surprise at all. Like most things in life, the answer comes down to money, and George Lucas's best move was making sure that he milked all of the profits he could from Star Wars-related merchandise.

Jar Jar Binks was pandering at best, and a lot of other things at worst. The real problem with the prequel trilogy was that it was a series that was sold to children and the overarching premise was about space tariffs. Children want to see lightsaber battles and mega-droids battling spaceships, not a bunch of swamp creatures arguing about the galactic economy and the politics involved.

For the adults who were raised on the original trilogy, the movies did not do enough to excite nostalgia. For the children, every cool "Darth Maul" character or archenemy robot boss or silly "Jar Jar" character was counteracted with a generic Christopher Lee villain*, a weird slave-owning mechanic, or a Jedi council that sits around for 75% of the trilogy.

Culturally, the prequel trilogy came out as the internet was becoming ubiquitous--elementary schools were getting their first internet-capable computers in libraries and labs, and chat rooms and blog sites were quick ways to exchange information. The first people to call out the Phantom Menace as a bomb went viral (in the earliest ways virality allowed) got a lot of publicity and these issues spread.

Some of these issues existed in the original trilogy, for what it is worth. But they got first mover's advantage, culturally, and are held up nostalgically as cultural staples. But even Return of the Jedi fell off entirely by the time they leave Tatooine.

* Love Christopher Lee, so I feel bad calling him out. But kids don't buy the "Saruman" toy.

I mean, I'm not the biggest Star Wars fan out there, but I watched the movies a few
times and to be honest, I don't mind Jar Jar. I wouldn't go ahead and say that he's one
of my favorite fictional characters, but he's fine for me. At least he isn't that annoying
then characters from other movies and also TV shows I watched, so yeah...
