A town, shrouded in mystery, known to be treacherous and dangerous. Of course I'm nervous! How I was chosen to do an article on it, I'll never know. My boss said I'd be staying there for a few weeks, talking to the people there, taking pictures, and finding out what's really going on. Currently, I'm on the train. Outside there's a fog so dense I can't see out the window properly. This was not going to be fun...
My name is Willam. I'm a journalist who was assigned to do some research and write an article on the town of Jinkx. For years, no one has visited or even gone past it. Why, you may ask, I don't know. That's the point of this assignment. I'm definitely scared, but this needs to be done. Hopefully this'll be my big break!
Many years ago, after the death of the previous mayor, the town became dreary and lost contact with the rest of the world. Spooky, right? No one knows what happened to the residents there, either. I'm hoping to-

"Jinkx! We've arrived at the Jinkx train station." I about threw my laptop across the train car when a sudden voice broke the silence.
"Here I go..." I muttered, grabbing my bag and standing up. "And the think I was finally getting some work done!" My boss assigned this job to me about 3 weeks ago, and I had just started working on the intro to the article. I slipped the strap of my computer bag over the shoulder and slipped the device inside. Then, I picked up my suitcase and headed to the front of the train.

My stomach was in knots and I thanked the train operator and stepped off. The weight of my suitcase was about as heavy as a ton of bricks, or at least it felt that way. I had packed fairly light. Dim lights were the only things keeping the station from being totally dark. Chills ran up my spine as the train started to move behind me. Shadows moved and danced as the lights flickered. I hurriedly made my way out of the creepy station and into the town.
The fog was even more dense outside as it had been on the train ride. Plus, it was freezing cold. My hands fumbled around to find my phone. I tapped the screen with a shaking finger and was relieved as my flashlight turned on. Holding up my phone, I slowly turned around in a circle just to try and make out something. Trees rustled loudly and the wind started to blow. This was going to be a long night...

My flashlight beam cut through the fog like a sword. I jumped as I quickly passed over something that looked like a living thing. Slowly moving my light back, it was confirmed. But, the thing didn't seem dangerous. To the contrary it looked friendly.
"H-hello?" I said nervously, taking a few steps closer.
"Hi there! You must be the new mayor!" Mayor? I did a double take.
"No! I'm just a journali-"
"Nonsense! You're Willam, right?" The creature walked closer to reveal what it was. A cute little calico cat. She stuck out a paw, and I grabbed it, giving her a firm handshake.
"Yes, and you are?"
"Purrl!" She said, in a happy tone. It was nice to know there was at least one normal resident in this dreary place.

"So uh- I assume you're missing a mayor currently, but I can assure you, it isn't me!" I say, then pull out a notepad from my bag. I write down Purrl's name and jot down a few notes about her so far.
Kind and welcoming, assumes I'm mayor.
Calico cat, big eyes, purple shirt

I'd have to add more later. She looks a little confused by the notepad, but brushes it off. Probably assumes it's "mayor business" or something.
"Here, let me take you to town hall. You can make your arrival more official." The cat starts moving into the fog, and I have to sprint to catch up with her.
