I’ve seen so many posts about people that are angry with their “random” second set of villagers. (3-5).

I just wanted to make a PSA, because it seems like a lot of people don’t know this. You can start picking your first three villagers as soon as you’re able to buy nook miles tickets. They don’t have to be random at all.

Sorry if this comes off as rude. I’m just a bit frustrated seeing people complain about the villagers they got when it’s easily preventable.

In addition to this - there’s only 3 true random villagers that you’ll get. Your first two and your campsite visitor.

That’s it - the other 7 do not need to be random.

i think most people that started playing when it launched couldn't possibly have access to that information at that time, so that's probably why a lot of people have random move-ins and complain about it (i myself have 3 random move-ins beside my 2 starters and my campsite visitor, so that's like 6 villagers i didn't choose at all lol)
but yeah it's nice to warn new players about this!

Yes, however ive been seeing complaints about the villager houses for your first 5 villagers which is understandable

Another helpful hint is that you can even use the process of elimination to narrow down your odds of finding a desirable villager.

The first three will always be Peppy, Normal, and Lazy. Once you pick a Peppy, Normal, or Lazy - only the other two will show up and then finally only one of the personalities will show up. Which will give you better odds of finding a specific villager.

To be fair, while what you're saying is technically right, you have to understand that most people will not be able to afford so many nook tickets to try for their villagers so early in the game. I know I couldn't. You have very little time to find them too, before a rando moves in, so unless you set your clock back a lot to farm for nook miles, good luck not getting randoms.

You can actually hunt for the first three before Tom Nook even asks you to place plots.

I started hunting and found Sherb on like day 2 or 3 of playing and I wasn’t even able to place a single plot until a few days later.

I feel like people think they have to rush to do so - you actually have a few days to find villagers.

Edit: In addition to this - even after finding my first three, I still had to wait a few days to place plots. So trust me - you have time.

Do tell me how you're amassing so many nook tickets in a couple days early on without TT'ing to get your dream villagers as the first move ins? I would like to know.

This isn't a challenge. I'm just really curious so I can do this on my second file.

No - I actually don’t TT. I was even casually playing without grinding.

I edited my post above to clarify that if you start early - I think you have until after the museum is built to hunt for villagers. In total I think I honestly used only 5 or 6 nook miles tickets over a period of 2-3 days to find decent villagers. Sherb is the only tier one that I found, but the most important point that I’m making - is that people aren’t realizing that if they get a head start they’re able to casually hunt without much stress. Even though you may not find a dreamie - you may find some cute ones and come to love them.

Thanks a lot! This is very helpful for new players so they wont make the same mistake some of us made.

Do you happen to know how many days we have before a random moves in?
For example, if i placed my 8th plot today and went to islands but didnt invite any one, will a random move in the very next day or will the plot stay open?

Hi, Yes!
Unfortunately when it comes to villagers 6-10 you’ll only have until 5 or 6am the next day to pick a villager. Those are the few that get tough, but it also gives you a chance to get a new favorite villager if you manage to find one that just suffices.

Not sure this is true for all 10? At least for the very LAST slot, I have the final slot open and am taking my time to tour around and find the right villager, I haven't had a random move in yet for about a solid week

That’s good to know. I know it happened that way at least until 9. So I panic filled my 10th slot.

I wonder if a mod should make an official thread to help new players with all of this information.

Also villagers 1-5 have basic house interiors the whole time they're on your island, so even more the case about not really caring who 1-5 is. Probably best to not try and get a dreamie for 1-5

You can get them for a friend though. Audie was adopted by me and her interior changed upon moving into my town.

yeah the other day I found out about this mechanic. So mad about it, (I got Flora, a dreamie, as one of my 3 random move-ins) & now I just want to kick my Flora out and re-farm her so I can have her with the house interior she's SUPPOSED to have.
Rrrghrghrghrghg why is this a mechanic
