Just for the heck of it, I put together a rough version of the KI theme on an acoustic guitar. It needs a lot of work, but I figured I'd post it anyway. Just for fun.

What do you think? I was going to post this on the Wii board because KI is on the VC, but I guess it's more appropriate here. Hope people see it.

That was pretty good, amarriner. Do you have any other classic melodies that you want to share here?

On a side note, I hadn't paid attention to your signature before, but are you a fan of H.P. Lovecraft? The mere mention of Nyarlathotep tells me that you are.

Thanks Infinity. I don't have anything else currently. I was just kind of noodling with the KI theme. I really like a lot of the old NES tunes. Actually I was going to do some Mega Man 2 stuff because I really like that soundtrack, but it seems to be pretty well covered. Still might do some of that or something else, though. Hehe who knows? I haven't played guitar regularly in years and am self-taught so I'm not all that good. I just like to mess around.

Yep, I'm a big HPL fan. I've read a lot of his stuff. Great, great stories. Really original for his time, too. Yeah that line is from the poem "Nyarlathotep". I'd recommend him to eny fan of the genre. Let me know if you need a recommendation.

:) Glad to meet another Cthulhu-phile.

You got skills.
Heh thanks. As I said in my previous thread, I don't pretend to be a good guitarist. I just like to noodle.

That's me playing the game, too. I wasn't really trying to play just trying to get Pit moving through the level. I thought I was going to die at the Grim Reaper because of the swarm of enemies!

I've only read a couple of his works: The Shadow over Innsmouth and At the Mountains of Madness, both great reads. I was actually introduced to Lovecraft's works by the original Alone in the Dark (the game that defined survival horror, way before Resident Evil was created), which was heavily influenced by it. I later played Shadow of the Comet (absolutely amazing graphical adventure), and its sequel: Prisoner of Ice (not as good as SotC, mainly because it's really short).

I've wanted to read some more of his novels, but I haven't had the time (and he's written way to much stuff!). I've been thinking on reading The Color Out of Time, The Dunwich Horror, or The Shadow out of Space. What do you think? Or maybe you could give a recommendation that's not among these three.

Nice, yeah the original Alone in the Dark was great. Incidentally, check out Eternal Darkness for the Cube if you can. It's really cheap and has a great Lovecrafty feel to it. I just recently played through Shadow of the Comet maybe a year ago. Definitely nice. Pretty tough, actually. I've yet to play through "Prisoner", but I have it. I was just able to pick up an original XBOX so I'm looking forward to grabbing "Dark Corners of the Earth".

:)

Many people think At the Mountains of Madness is one of his best works. I like it (though I think it drags a little), but it's not my favorite. The Shadow Over Innsmouth is great in my opinion.

:)

Yeah he does have a lot, but much of it is short stories. Out of the three you mention I'd recommend The Dunwich Horror first. The Call of Cthulhu is a must-read, too. Some say it's not his best, but I really like it and it's just classic. If you like Lovecraft you must read CoC.

Other good ones: The Thing on the Doorstep, Whispers in Darkness, Herbert West: Reanimator, and The Lurking Fear. Those are some of my favorites other than the ones we've mentioned already.

Man there are so many other good ones, too! Now I want to go back and read them again! I still have a few to get through, too, actually. His dream stuff isn't quite as compelling to me as is his straight horror, but some is okay. Heh, guess we really veered off the subject here, huh?

:) Oh well! I'm always up for a good HPL discussion.

Now that you mentioned the Dark Corners of the Earth game, do you know what kind of game it is? At first I was excited when the game was announced, but then I saw some screenshots and it looked like an FPS, so I completely lost interest (maybe it's because I love the graphical adventure genre and was hoping for a something similar, even though the genre is dead).

Oh, by the way, if you happen the get stuck in Prisoner of Ice, let me know. There is a part where it's extremely easy to get stuck, since you have to look for something that it's almost impossible to find.

Last but not least, thanks for the recommendations, amarriner.

That was cool great job! Now something like Sonic would be quite a challenge with the fast paced music like Doomsday or somethin

It is from a first person perspective, but I don't really know if it's a FPS or not, unfortunately. In fact I know next to nothing about the game other than it has "Call of Cthulhu" in the title (which means I must own this game irregardless of its quality), and I saw the opening video to it and it seemed decent (starts in the Arkham Sanitarium, nice!).

Yeah I love the point-and-click genre, too. That's pretty much all I played for a while back when those games were far more popular. I still play many to this day--though I still play text adventures, too, so I'm not sure how good a litmus test my tastes are :). In fact there's a good Infocom game called The Lurking Horror which is nice an Lovecraft-ish. All text games tend to scare people away nowadays, but I can attest to the fact that they were very engrossing back in the day. Heck, as I said, I still play them now. There's still a pretty big indie culture creating them (there's a good indie Lovecraft-style game, too ;)).

Thanks for the offer of help on Prisoner. I should really start playing that soon. You're welcome on the recommendations and I'd be interesting in hearing your thoughts after you read more.

Yikes, almost missed your post because I was babbling on about Lovecraft.

;)

Anyway thanks for the kudos. Yeah I'd be interested in doing other stuff though finding the time to do so will probably be a challenge, but who knows?! I do like the music in Sonic. Dunno how well it'd translate, but I could give it a shot.

P.S. Thanks for the comment on youtube, too
