I'm getting a kitten soon (around 3-4 months) n I'm wondering if you guys had any advice for when I do get her. I don't have any other pets and there are no small children around if that helps any :0 ok thanks

I have 4 cats so I learned from expirience. Get a scratching pad as soon as you get her. She needs to file her nails so she won't scratch up your whole leg; or just wear pants a lot. (?∀`) Buy toys? They don't really get bored but watching them play is adorable, ngl. Get her a collar; I had a cat.. (had.... don't have her anymore) do you know why, lmao? because somebody took her and claimed her as her own. My mistake. Take her to get her vaccinations, to get spayed, and all that other medical stuff and that's pretty much it. Happy kit! ヽ(*⌒∇⌒*)ノ

I 2nd pretty much everything Mochi said.

Also, some cats get really spooked when they are first brought to a new home. You just need to be patient with it if they try to hide. Easy them out with food and a soft voice instead, no force or sudden movements. Since there are no other pets that you have to worry about gradually introducing it to, your kitten should hopefully grow comfortable with your home very quickly. :)

Depending on what kind of place you live in, it might be a good idea to keep the kitten in a smaller room for a little while so it can easily find the litter box and get used to it and also so you don't have to worry about it getting in trouble or having to search the entire home for it. Give it comfortable places to sleep (like a bed, sofa, or cat tower with blankets; some cats also like empty cardboard boxes if you put a blanket in one). Other than that, just make sure to feed it well (but not too much), give it plenty of water, clean the litter box frequently, and give it lots of love.

I have had experience in the past of bringing up a kitten who is now a fully grown adult (she's 4 years old). We no longer have her as she's been passed onto my father who absolutely adored her. She seems quite content and satisfied with him so it was a good option for her (I already have a new puppy). There is one main point which needs to be considered; whether she will she be an indoor or outdoor cat? It's a decision that I made wisely back when we first got her; we decided it was best to keep her as an indoor cat due to her poor behaviour as a kitten. This enabled us to keep a close eye on her so that she wouldn't be gone all day without knowing where she is. Speaking of bad behaviour, we were able to get it under control with the use of a spray bottle. Every time that she would be naughty, we'd spray water at her to give her a fright. This technique did work as she fully well knew that she was in the wrong; it teaches them what's right and what's wrong. We made our mistake of buying a bed which was never used, cats will generally sleep anywhere in the house, especially on higher levels from the ground such as your bed or sofa (or even at the top of your wardrobe, believe me it's happened).

Apologies for the ramble, I hope you have a wonderful experience with your new kitten! :)

everything suggested has been good so far, and if it hasnt been brought up, dont lock her in any rooms. let her roam freely and explore the house on her own terms. if you have stairs in your house leading into another level, watch her to make sure she doesnt stumble or hurt herself. also, if you're thinking about declawing her, dont! declawing is awful for cats. it's best to get them toys to scratch on, like posts or pads, and make sure to scold her lightly if she happens to scratch furniture. since she's young she may not understand but it's a quickly broken habit.
overall give her a lot of love, and make her feel like family :) i've raised 10 cats since they were kittens, and I have 6 at home right now (other 4 are strays lol)
good luck! do you have any name ideas for the kitten??

dessert names would be darling! what are her markings?

Definitely move her food and litter in one area so she knows where they are. My kitten couldn't make it to her litter downstairs so we moved it on one floor since we live in a two storey house.

Keep in mind that kittens are different from cats. They're essentially like kids. A kitten will be hyper, bite, scratch, meow, get litter everywhere, want to explore everything all the time with its claws and teeth. And every cat has their own personality. Maybe they'll be lazy, maybe they'll want to play all the time. If it's a stray, be sure to be on the lookout for worms, sneezing, or any other sick behavior. pneumonia can be dangerous for cats, especially kittens. Get your cat spade/neutered. It sounds awful, but it's more awful to know that there are so many other kittens and puppies that won't get loved or be in bad situations because not everyone does that for their pets. Can you afford the kitten? Can you get them regular check ups with a vet? Are you able to clean the litterbox once every few days? Are you able to afford litter? Are you able to afford kitten food? These are all important things to consider as well.

I'm sure that you'll be fine. These are just some initial thoughts I had after seeing your thread.

Don't put the food too close to the litter box though. My cats wouldn't eat when I had them too close together for their liking.

You should get a litter box with a lid/high walls so that the kitty litter won't go all over the floor if the kitty decided to kick it around.

You could probably make some walls with a cardboard box if you wanted to save money.

Enjoy it when they climb up your leg during feeding time. Tiny claws digging into your calves is a sign of love.

WHY IS THAT SO CUTEE????

Kitties are mean though, so I just cant give you any other advice other than just punish her for doing something bad. My sister owns a cat and I always make sure that thing is not in the room

Everyone has said very good advice, but I would like to emphasize to get the kitten toys. Kittens have a lot of energy, and when they want to play it's better to train them to play with toys, rather than your hands or your feet.

My previous cat I had for 14 years and she was nothing but a blob that would shed everywhere. My kitten now, who is almost a year, has so much energy. Toys are definitely needed.

I would also try to get into the habit of brushing your kitten, even if it's short hair. It will help with the hair balls.

Oh, and also you are feeding it a good cat food. Don't get the whiskes, or Walmart brand. It's nothing but fillers. A good vet will recommend a good food for your kitten that's not overly expensive.

read a book on kitties from the library!
just make sure u treat her like a baby and nothing less bc they are precious animals
