The Eagles - Errm, they did Hotel California. Classic Rock.
The Beatles - I don't know anyone who hasn't heard of these guys.
Elton John - Would anyone know any of his songs? Piano Rock. Awesome.
Queen - Again, you've heard of 'em.

My favorites change basically whenever I find someone else that sounds good, but here are a few that have stuck with me forever:

Modest Mouse:
Indie Rock at it's finest. Not only do they sound great, but they're not your average band, they actually sing about something other than the girl that left them.

Muse:
They've gotta have the craziest singer i've ever heard... sounds like a mix between a dying cat, and an old coal miner, with an english accent.

Incubus:
They're my latest band... sure, I haven't really loved them for very long, but I can tell these guys are a band that I like. They've got one of the most talented singers i've ever heard, and to top it off, several great albums.
