learning DIY through trading

Hi, I havn’t played for too long and started trading furniture and have a question, when you trade furniture with someone, do you automatically learn the DIY? Or do you need the recipe? Thank you!

You can only learn DIYs getting the recipe. There was a glitch with the mermaid furniture where you couldn't get the recipe from Pascal if someone made the furniture for you, not sure if that's been patched yet.
