So i restarted my game at least 12 days ago and I have not picked a single weed so far because I heard that when your town gets 50+ weeds Leif will be seen and he will give you an awesome item. This is not "weeding day" but I was told that Leif will randomly appear because the abundance of weeds.

Anyone know if this rumor is true?

I just checked the wiki and all it mentions is that if you have 50+ weeds he will wander around and help you pull some of them, there is no mention of any gifts. I'm pretty sure he only gives you gifts on weeding day.

He does give you things if you pull the weeds, it doesn't have to be weeding day. I've gotten a rose chair/sofa and something else.

He does show up, I don't know if 50 is the threshold; I think it's that there's a chance he'll show up if you're over a certain number. His shop will be closed and he'll be sleeping in your town...either near your house or near your train station (my house is by the train station, so I don't know which he's sticking close to).

Once you wake him up, he'll ask you to pull all the weeds while he keeps count. Once all the weeds are pulled (clovers don't count) he'll give you a piece of furniture from the flower set.

If you have people visiting, they can help and Leif will give them a prize too.

What about his weed service once you get T.I.Y.?

It is true, I've hosted it a few times, everyone who pulls a weed and is in town when the last is pulled will get a single prize. (weeding day you get multiple)

I'm not 100% on the threshold myself, I've had him come before and I didn't talk to him, then about 5 days later he returned and there was 66 weeds. So if no villagers pulled weeds he first visit there should have been 56. That's the lowest I've had, so I would assume 50.
He will always be (asleep) in the same acre as your house. ~ usually within a few spaces, but if you're by the river he can appear across the river. The gardening shop will be closed. Person who's town it is has to talk to him to start the weed counter ~ displayed on screen. (unlike weeding day where only host can check number left by talking to Leif)


No idea how the weeding service in TIY works, I shall hit over 50 weeds while on holiday, so when I return I'm going to see if that triggers the same event above 50 when Leif isn't waiting for you. Below 50 someone else can check cause it's easy enough to do.
