I have just restarted my town about a month ago and am trying to get foreign fruit. So I'm sending my villagers a peach and a one line letter actually saying "Please send fruit". OK, easy enough, however I've not had a reply yet. At all. I've sent all the villagers the same letter. Twice. Since I restarted. Is there a glitch in my game maybe that means sending them a letter is not triggering a return?
I've received letters since restarting (I think, I played my old town until I realised how sick of the state of it I was!), just not from villagers...

Are you playing CF or WW? I know I restarted my village on CF and was doing the same thing that you are, trying to get fruit in the mail, but with no luck. I'm waiting for the "note in a bottle" in Nook's store and then I'm going to try putting fruit in there and send it out and see what comes back.
Although I'm still playing WW (trying to finish collecting everything before June 9th) I didn't restart my town so I can't remember if I received fruit from the villagers in the mail way back when I started. My daughters played too so I think we just swapped fruit.
On the wiki that I went to, there was another way of getting fruit through letters.
You have to send them a letter saying "How are you?" (just like that, but without the quotes) and include a piece of native fruit as a gift in the letter.
They'll either send you a random item or they'll send you a fruit back.
It's always worked for me :3
Well, it's normal for the villagers to not respond to every letter you send requesting [foreign] fruit, but in your case, I would stop sending them fruit demanding letters for a while, try sending fruit demanding letters in a few weeks. See if they send you your fruit.
Oh, and Cardbored, the gift has to be your native fruit, I think.
The gift can be anything (at least in WW). What I usually do is say "I want some fruit", then put in a gift and send it. They'll always give something back, though it took me a while to get any foreign fruit because they always either send me my native fruit or a shirt. Also like I said, this is in WW, so I don't know if it'll apply to CF.
I realized I only had one foreign fruit and started asking my neighbors for some. I wrote everyone a letter reading "Some fruit, friend?" and sent thrm my home fruit (peaches). I got back 2 pears and 3 cherries and a bunch of ugly shirts...
