This is a series of writings I've been doing lately, writing to the villagers of Carolina, from the past, present, and future. Today, my letter to Rex, the first villager to leave Carolina.

Dear Rex,

I hope this letter finds you well in Townsville. I keep hearing from the others that you're doing alright, and that gladdens me. I know we hardly interacted, if at all, during your very brief time on my island. I had no idea that Mr. Nook would sell land behind my back the way he did. To say it angered me would be an understatement. To say it threw my plans for Carolina into disarray would be an understatement. To say that I was plotting your exit before you even finished unpacking would be, well, an overstatement.

Let's cut to the chase here: I'm a hyena. Hyenas don't get on very well with lions. That much was evident to you from the day you arrived, I'm sure. We were oil and water, and one can't exist in peace in the presence of the other.

But ultimately, that's not your fault. You had no idea what Mr. Nook was selling you. He dazzled you with ideas of tropical paradise and fellow castaways. He conveniently forgot to mention that the island's resident rep. was your rival on the food chain. It was only upon your arrival that we both realized he'd sold you a bill of goods.

The day you told me you intended to move on was equally relieving for both of us, I'm sure. You could find your own paradise on your own terms, and I could find someone to take up your spot. Funny enough, he kinda looks like a hyena, but he howls like a wolf. His name is Kyle and he found one of your soda stashes while moving into your house. He'll have it sent by DAL tomorrow.

Hopefully Townsville is everything you had hoped for it to be. Carolina's island motto is "Forever to Thee," and while some may not stay forever, you are forever a part of Carolina history, and that much I can not understate or overstate.

Keep being you, and I hope your new neighbors are giving you all the love you deserve.

Sincerely,

Dodger
