When people talk about traveling, a lot of the time what comes to mind is traveling to far away places to see things you normally wouldn't see or to experience and learn about things that are not familiar to you.
Sometimes there are things in our own backyard to explore too. I was wondering if there are any places in your own country you want to go to one day? Or even in your own providence/state?
Any historical sites, landmarks, special shops, public facilities ect

For myself, I would love to visit China Town over in California as well as Nihonmachi. I would like to walk a few blocks and enjoy the scenery and architecture. Of course pick up a couple of things to eat. And visit a couple of shops. I don't think I'd would like to go during a festival though.. maybe I would if I visited a couple of times first while they didn't have one. But I think it may be nice to visit in the spring or fall.
I would like to visit an Indian reservation or two sometime. I would really like to visit the Navajo Nation in particular simply because I admire so much of what I do know of their traditional teachings. I would also like to visit the East Cherokee Nation and the West Cherokee Nation too. Though they are both Cherokee there are differences. I want to visit them and just learn a little more about them simply because of ancestry and just not knowing much and I feel like I should know a little more. I feel like I can't find much detail online from good sources.
I would like to visit a Buddhist Temple and a couple of Shinto shrines sometime. I have more interest in learning a few more details about Shinto and online is kinda tricky I noticed.
I would like to visit the big aquarium in Chicago Illinois. I have already been to the big one in Kentucky a couple of times and it was great.
I'd like to see the ocean one day in person, so I'd like to visit the Florida Coast and check out a few things there. I'd like to see some of their aquatics and of course eat at some places. I would also like to check out the ocean on the East Coast too. I am not sure where in particular, but I would like to visit Maine anyway during Autumn for their leaf festivals or tours. And I'd like to eat some clam chowder from somewhere on the East Coast too anyway. I also want to visit Father Fish Aquarium (it's a store and not like an aquarium to go to look at) in Salisbury Maryland which is part of the East Coast. So, there is probably a way to knock out multiple with one stone.
There are a couple of things really close that is more realistic for me to reach that is like to visit sometime that I can think of right now. Within my state.
A town over is an archeology site of a past Native American village. It isn't large or super noticable or elaborate. They have finished excavating it for a while now, and it is open to the public. They also have a horse trail, not that I have a horse or anything to take there but I thought that was nice. I haven't made it over there to visit. It wasn't always open to the public and I even remember when they didn't break ground on it yet. I remember driving by and seeing the progress from a distance of them excavating it. So I'd like to see what is in the visitors center because I'm sure there is some cool stuff to read or see.
There are mounds where I live. Many are unmarked, but there is a very large mound that is marked and protected and Id like to go there and visit sometime. Actually I'd like to visit a few times to be honest. The mound is ancient and is a protected park area. There is a walking trail around the mounds and plaques to read. And there are people from at least a couple of religions that go there for ceremonious reasons during the year because it is considered a sacred site to them and I'd like to watch from a distance for a few minutes.
That's all I can really think of for now. I'm sure there are other cool things that I am just not aware of, yet. Sometimes really cool places are small and not very noticable and you kinda have to discover that it is there. And maybe your own list could expand while seeing other people's lists who may be in the same country as you.
(Maybe I should make a thread similar to this thread about places you have been that are local to you?)
I really should take the time to make a physical list of stuff like this and maybe some of it can be crossed out one day.
