So my hubs went to target today to get new curtains for the house, while also thinking target had a Redbox brought the dvd with him inside so he could return it. Got a cart, put said dvd in the cart and proceeded to find curtains. Went pass the long, long check out line and decided that he was not gonna wait in that long of a line for curtains, left said cart with redbox dvd still inside and left the store. Not even a full 10 mins goes by & he remembers he left the dvd in the cart, so proceeded to go back for it. Of course, too late. It was gone. So my whole point of this pointless post, other than to get my frustrating out of how he could even leave a dvd in the cart & forget about it, is just to see what a majority of people would do if they found that dvd..

am I getting my hopes up that someone will actually report it to lost & found or return it to a Redbox kiosk? If you found said dvd what would you have done?

I'd return it most likely, we had redbox here for what seemed like only a few months and then it was gone.

Okay I had to look up what a redbox was. Those look crazy! I would return it, considering it's a rental thing. If it was just a purchased DVD, I'd keep it if it was a movie I liked.

Sadly most people take things. If anything is sitting out in public, consider it gone.

If I found that I would have returned it to the Redbox or brought it home and contacted the company to arrange to ship it back. I wouldn't want anyone who lost it to get charged a fee just to keep a used DVD!

I know I left my purse in a cart and went back and someone had turned it in once. I wouldn't want to betray that kindness by stealing from someone else in a similar position!

Yes that’s exactly what the target associate said, a lot of people do return personal items to lost & found. So here’s to hoping! Glad you were able to find your purse! I would cry if I ever lost my purse!

That last part was what I was most of afraid of & it’s so true at that! I guess I’m ready to shell out the money for the lost dvd in the event it doesn’t show up!

They seem to be a lot more here than they need to be lol, I guess that’s why T-Mobile always gives away free 1 day Redbox rental with their T-Mobile Tuesday offers. Which is the only reason we rented a movie in the first place. Lesson learned I guess.

That sounds frustrating. I would return it. For whatever reason I always forget one thing of mine no matter how many times I double and triple check an area, but if it belongs to someone else or someone I know, or if I’m out in public I never forget anything. It’s weird really (maybe I’m just subconsciously more concerned about losing something that belongs to someone else than something of my own, LOL).

Not weird @ all! I would be more scared of losing something that belongs to someone else as well, at least if it was my own item I would just pay the price & beat myself up the rest of the day about it.

Did he talk to an employee about it? If the cart was gone, I would assume an employee took it, they usually have an area where they separate merchandise before returning it to its designated isle. If I was a customer and I saw the cart I would probably just leave it there, I wouldn't even look inside because I would assume that whoever is using the cart is around looking at something else or that an employee is using it to place merchandise that has been left in the wrong section of the store.

Regarding your question about returning it, I probably would return it. If I looked inside and the disc was gone, I would probably look up their website and see how to proceed from there.

On a side note, that totally sound like something my bf would do 😣 🤦‍♀️

lol yes totally a dude thing! But yes— he talked to customer service, no one had turned it in. Granted it was literally like a span of 10 mins since the cart went missing. We figured if a target employee did happen upon the cart that they would either place the dvd in lost & found or take it home and watch it lol. Since I have been calling customer service every couple hours (no one has turned it in since) we assumed the latter happened. Hopefully whoever took it will enjoy the movie for the night and be kind enough to return it for us the next day. But obviously worst case scenario, a customer took it cause he literally left the cart next to the line & just bounced (ugh of course he would) so I’m sure they knew he was leaving the store and not shopping. If only hubs wasn’t so impatient, waited in line and bought the dang curtains!! lol can’t live with them, can’t live without them I guess 🤷🏻‍♀️

Hopefully they do return it 🙏 I just looked at their terms and conditions and that's gonna be the most expensive movie rental ever if they don't .-.
Honestly, there's an off chance that the movie was still in the cart when he went back and wasn't noticed by employees yet, but it sounds like you've already tried several times :/ or maybe it was already returned 🙆‍♀️
My poor guy is usually thinking about work 24/7 so he tends to be very forgetful... very... but I still wouldn't change a thing about him <3 (well maybe the socks laying around everywhere .-.)

Yes love him to death, even if it was a blu-ray ( ´༎ຶㅂ༎ຶ`) thank you for all your hopeful juju!~ෆ

I would never take something that wasn't mine. It would depend on where the cart was as to what I would do. If I assumed someone had just left it temporarily and would be right back, I wouldn't touch anything in it. But if I felt sure they were gone, I'd probably turn it into Lost & Found. I wouldn't return it to Redbox just because I wouldn't know whether the person had just rented it or not. At least by taking it to Lost & Found, that person can reclaim it and do whatever they want with it.

Edit: I meant to add that I hope you find it. :)

We’ve had at least three Redbox movies in our house for the past ten years now. I’m pretty sure my brother was charged tons of money for not returning them.

Thank you so much! I wish the world was filled with all the lovely & kind humans from this forum! Here’s to hoping it ended up in the hands of such a person!

Yikes I can only imagine how much 3 movies would cost. Luckily I know they have a cap max they charge you after a certain amount of days. I wanna say a blu ray is $34+ tax... still for a movie I rented for free, that’s a bummer!

omg this reminds me...I found a Blockbuster DVD case with the movie inside in our basement the other night.

God, the Late fees

If I were in this sort of situation where I found a Redbox DVD, I'd probably be like LadyDestani and not touch it because I don't know the circumstances as to why it's there, where the person renting it is or if they're coming back. If for some reason I did decide it was abandoned or dropped or something, I'd probably return it to the nearest Redbox as soon as possible, but I don't really know that I'd want to make that assumption because maybe they're out there and just realized they left it and are coming back for it.

Unfortunately, in this case, I would assume someone took it and kept it and, as you already are, be prepared to pay the fee for loss/damage/etc. Worst case scenario, you pay the maximum fee, best case scenario some good samaritan returned it to the Redbox, and maybe there's a possibility someone kept it to watch themselves and returned it afterward and the answer lies somewhere between the two.

Hopefully this will be a learning experience for your husband.

Best of luck to you and your husband! I would have thought that someone would have returned it as well, but not everyone might be familiar with Redbox and how to use their boxes. If it was in a cart, I honestly probably wouldn't have touched it. Maybe the customer was shopping and left the cart to look for something for whatever reason. Still, you would have thought that the lost items would go back to a lost & found, or an employee would figure out a Redbox DVD had been lost and then returned it for you?

As previous posters have said, the worst case scenario is that you would have to pay the fee for losing it. The good news is that there is a cap on how much they can charge, so while the fee may be disappointing, it won't be extremely large.

I've been in a similar situation for library books before. I eventually found the books, but I was getting myself ready to confess to the librarians I lost the book and to pay the fee! Hopefully, it will be a similar situation for you and the movie will show up.

Thank you!!—Yes, I would have assumed during these circumstances & the pandemic going on people would be less enthusiastic about touching other’s belongings. But clearly that was not the case here. Just like the one person who voted “keep it” (lol) I’m pretty sure thats what happened in this case. No charge on my account so I can concluded from that no one has returned it yet. I guess if target actually had a Redbox inside, someone would have been more inclined to return it. Seeing as it didn’t, I know no one will go out their way to find one so they could return it. Just like @Halloqueen said, hopefully this will be a learning experience for the hubs! But thank you everyone thus far for your 2 cents, it was much appreciated! (∗ᵕ̴᷄◡ᵕ̴᷅∗)

If I’m being perfectly honest, I would probably just ignore it. I have a little bit of a germ phobia thanks to my mom’s influence, so I’d just leave it alone, especially with all this COVID crap happening.

I wouldn’t fret over it though. I’m sure an employee found the cart and got it sorted it out. It’s incredibly sweet of you to worry about it however: it means that you care about doing the right thing. :)

if I found one lying around somewhere outside or at a store then yeah I would def return it.

however I voted "keep it" because I recall a time when I found a red box DVD just chillin in a random spot in the house, ecen tho we havent rented from them in years lol. idek why we still have it but i figure at this point we might as well keep it :p
