Right so last year at school I basically studied poetry all year. By the end I was literally *censored2.5*ting poetry, so I thought I'd share some of the ones I consider my best here.
I have also been influenced by my teacher to start writing poetry in my spare time, so if I come up with other stuff, I'll put it on here.
Okay anyway, to start us off: This is my best piece of writing, and it's about a wintry night.
<div class='spoiler_toggle'>A Winter's Night</div><div class="spoiler" style="display:none;">Frost coats the hills and roof tops in a sparkling white,
I think how beautiful, as I see this magnificent sight,
The ground crunches beneath my feet with every step I take,
The fields and meadows before me glitter in the moonlight.
There is a chill in the air as I walk through the trees,
I see my breath floating away in the cold night's breeze,
There is not a sound to be heard as I keep marching on,
Homewards I hurry before my finger tips freeze.
Suddenly I can hear the soft chime of a bell,
It's sounding from the Church in my village, I can tell,
I am closer to my journey's end than I though,
Just a few more miles and I'll be home safe and well.
I close the door on the cold winter's night,
Glad to see the cosy fire burning so bright,
I settle down in my comfy old arm chair,
And think of those poor souls who are still out there.</div>
Ok, next up is a poem I wrote whilst on a steam train. It is a cinquain which is a poem with the syllable count 2,4,6,8,2. Enjoy!
<div class='spoiler_toggle'>Steam Train</div><div class="spoiler" style="display:none;">Steam train,
It chugs along,
Leaving a trail of smoke,
Put your head out the window,it
goes black!</div>
This one is a limerick, a 5 line poem where lines 1,2 and 5 rhyme, and lines 3 and 4 rhyme together. Mine is about a wizard, I was inspired by the Wizard of Oz,lol
<div class='spoiler_toggle'>The Wizard of Wells</div><div class="spoiler" style="display:none;">There was an old wizard from Wells,
Who had trouble in casting good spells,
Turning a dog into a frog,
A hog into a log,
Then he disappeared on a walk in the fells.
</div>
The next one is a Haiku, a three line Japanese poem in the form of a sentence. It does not have to rhyme, and is usually describing the weather or a season. Mine is about the winter, which is the time when I wrote it.
<div class='spoiler_toggle'>Winter</div><div class="spoiler" style="display:none;">The trees were swaying,
In the cold winter night
