On 3ds you have 100 levels and the advantage of an handheld you can make levels anywhere but...... We can't post levels :(
On Wii U we can post our creations and I think the graphics are good on Wii U
I still love them both anyway since I have a 3ds I would love if they add the posting levels feature.

I've never played the 3DS version since I already owned the game on the Wii U and didn't see a point in getting the game a second time. As such, and because of what you stated about the 3DS apparently not being able to share levels, I have to give my vote to the Wii U version. I like the game but being able to play other people's creations is a big selling point of it for me. Without that aspect, I can't see myself enjoying the game that much.

I haven't played either of the version, but I've watched several YT videos for the Wii U version and yeah my vote goes to that too. WHy did they have to remove the sharing levels thing on 3ds? I mean it has Spotpass, wi-fi etc. so why can't they just merge like a database or just being able to search or share. Meh.

I like the idea of the game, but yea just creating yourself and nothing more no.

As for which version of Super Mario Maker you should get, the Wii U one is pretty much unanimously favored over the 3DS port. It's largely due of the ability to share your levels to a much broader audience on Internet, as well of having way more control on which levels you'd like to play, yet the portable iteration stripped those features out.

However, you'd better get a Wii U and a copy of that game as soon as possible, because those aforementioned features won't work as soon as the servers goes down forever. We don't know exactly when it'll happen, but I suspect it'll be sooner than later, since Wii U didn't sold well enough during its entire lifespan.
