Hey, I'm toying with the idea of picking this up (I'm a sucker for the Fantastic Four and I saw they were finally added earlier this year) so just wondering if anybody has played it and their thoughts on it.

If I look at general reviews they go all the way from 'awful' to 'awesome', so I'm hoping for a more personal review from people on here.

One of my favorite Switch titles, tbh. It’s just stupid, arcadey fun. Ridiculous roster, fun gameplay, typical comic book story, but that’s expected. It’s like playing through a 90’s marvel animated series where everyone teams up and I love it. And the DLC adds so much more content and characters for just $20.

However, tge game could be more polished, both graphically and performance-wise. Some animations/shadows are jittery, though not game-breakingly noticeable. Frame rate suffers when a lot is going on onscreen, which is often if you’re using a ton of special moves. Online lobbies are pretty much dead at this point, so if you wanna experience co-op you’ll need to find some friends who own the game. The ISO-8 mechanic (for enhancing abilities) is tedious and breaks you out of the fun to manage inventory.

However, I still have a blast just plowing through enemies and trying out different squads. Idk how many times I’ve played through the story but I’ve put 300 hours into the game.

If you like Marvel and fun arcade beat-em-ups, I’d highly recommend it. But if constant (minor) performance issues and outdated-looking graphics irks you, then I’d pass.

I bought it when it came out, and I enjoyed it quite a bit. Been a while since I've touched it...but, I will return to it soon. Definitely worth your time if you are a Marvel fan. Nothing bad to say about it, really. Just guessing, here...but, some of those "awful" reviews you read might be from people who are spiteful that the game is Switch exclusive. I've seen games rated poorly for exclusivity reasons before. People are shallow.

@LuchaSloth @Nooblord sorry to tag you back here, but I have another question I can't seem to Google.
So, I just bought the game (it's on its way, I don't have it yet) but I'm wondering if all characters are playable from the start?
ie. Will I be able to play the entire game with the Fantastic Four/Dr. Doom (which is actually what I was hoping for...)?

I see there's unlockable characters, but since the FF are DLC I'm hoping I can use them immediately...

No, if I remember correctly, even the DLC characters need to be unlocked. They come with their own story arcs and their own set of objectives. This was one of my complaints about the game, tbh...because, some of those objectives are pretty difficult. I guess the way to look at it, is that you are paying for the Story DLC...not paying directly for the characters. You then have the chance to unlock said characters. Again...this makes the game more of a challenge and drags things out a bit more...but it is kind of annoying in the sense that you don't just get those characters.

I’m pretty sure you have to beat the main story at least once since the FF DLC is the prologue. But don’t take my word for it.

I don’t remember if you have to unlock them individually, I just know some of the skins are locked behind some tough challenges.

That's frustrating...I'm not sure I'd have even bought the game if I knew you'd have to grind with characters I don't even like...
