Ok so a few weeks ago while a villager was buying at retail one of the choices in the conversation was "You only live once" at first I was like "oh what a neat coincidence" and I genuinely found it funny but then I saw these 2 things 382517_568977429812860_2108210212_n.jpg 1009753_568976913146245_1051520633_n.jpgI didn't get a picture of the first one 'cause it was unexpected but seriously why?!

It's just the using of memes and that sort of thing is unoriginal and it's not funny (at first yes but it's way overused now a days) another thing is why be a sellout? back then before this animal crossing they never made a reference about anything unless it were nintendo related :/

I've also had the option of replying "Reading? LOL!" to Freya when she asked if I liked to read or re-read new/old books.

Honestly, it's not that big a deal. This game is geared towards kids and teens from the new generation, who have all been raised or are growing up on this stuff.

Surely it shows they are in touch with current social trends, Animal Crossing is very much of that scene now with the likes of tumblr etc. No sure what has that got to do with selling out though? And this is not a first for Nintendo, Reggie 'My body is ready' - hello!?

What I mean by selling out is like making a dubstep land or twiter/tumblr land for a mario game it's not right and "my body is ready" atleast is made by reggie from nintendo so if they did it would make sense.

I wouldn't consider this to be selling out. These new dialogue choices are not a selling point, and while some may find them grating, they aren't compromising the core gameplay or the integrity of the series. They're just a bit of fluff and an attempt to add character to the villagers.

Oh quit complaining. Dubstep is a genre of music that people actually listen to. It's not a meme as you say. It's perfectly legitimate for them to have it in the game as a choice.

And "you only live once" has been in games before.

That's from Paper Mario, Thousand Year Door, released in 2004, way before the whole YOLO craze took off.

According to this link, the earliest known usage of "seems legit" as a sarcastic response was in 2006. It's been around for ages, and I think it was a response in previous games.

If it apparently bothers you so much, why not just return your game then?

There is another one. on Fridays Sable will say

"Thank goodness it's friday" - TGIF

I didn't say that Dubstep was a meme and I know that some of these have been used even before they were a trend but what bothers me is that there are so many out of no where I mean sure they used some back then but only once or twice in one game I atleast can handle it since it's not that common but c'mon they even named the club "LOL"! don't get me wrong I love the game and not one moment feels wrong except for these when they mention internet trends or god awful genres of "music".

Because it's not that common and I love the game other than that fact, seriously even if it where that annoying (for example:if it actually was used a lot in the game) I still would'nt(typo) sell it.

Well, Shrunk owns the club and he's a comedian. I think the name is fitting.

I think it's a nice touch. "You can hear about it on my podcast".

It's called pop-culture. Movies do it all the time, games do too. Just because New Leaf has references to what is popular to today's culture doesn't make them sell-outs. I know some people find it annoying but they do this kind of stuff so that when you play it years from now you get that nostalgia feel of when you lived in this day and age.

If they made clever references/mentions to pop culture in a clever way I would like it but just using internet tropes is just why? it kinda ruins the whole immersion that you're in a different place a perfect example of what I'm talking about id the "double rainboom" fan made video (MLP) which incorporated so many references and trends that it was horrible (aside from animation).
