Whatever you want to call it, it's all the same game. I just got to the cemetery and HOLY HELL!!! This game is HARD! I've died like 7 times so far and I'm not even at the ZOO yet! The crows are also really annoying to fight! They keep dodging and they keep getting SMAAAAAAAAAASHes on me! Impossibility aside, this game has so many similarities to EarthBound. I'm looking for tips to maybe make this game more interesting/easier to deal with, so post any if you have them. Also, this is a semi-blind play through, so please refrain from posting spoilers! I've been a huge fan of the MOTHER series for a few years now, and I've played both EarthBound and Mother 3, but this is my first time playing through Mother 1. I'm so glad Nintendo officially released a translated version after 26 years! Now where's Mother 3, Nintendo?!? C'mon!!!

The game's biggest flaw is how poorly-balanced the enemies are, considering the very frequent encounter rate. The Zoo is one of the areas that suffers from the balancing issue. Since EarthBound Beginnings is a very old-school RPG at its core, the only way to overcome its toughest moments is to take an unreasonable amount of time to grind, and hope your stats outmatch these enemies.

I think that putting in this extra effort just makes the sweet parts sweeter. I can understand that some people thinks that the countless grinding makes the game boring, but the game is just as you said. A very old-school RPG at heart, and a key element of old-school RPGs is endless grinding. I get that it's a tactic to make short games, or even long games, seem longer than they actually are, but I like to think that putting in the extra mile just gives me a sense of achievement. Anyways, it's my opinion Think what you may. :)

So I just finished up at the Zoo and now I'm in Magicant. I've talked with Queen Mary, but I don't know what to do next. Also, the Magic Snails are HELL to kill! I've heard about an item called the Onyx Hook, but I don't know where to find it. I NEED SOME HELP! It sure is a lot different that Ness' magicant, I'll tell you that! :p

I wanted to get Earthbound Beginnings when it came out but it was more expensive than regular NES games on Virtual Console and i only had 5 euros of credit so yeah... Sad stories but i might get it after i finish Earthbound, i got it from the eShop like a year ago but i never played it anymore after i killed all the zombies with a paper sheet thing in a circus tent (it was in Threed i believe?). Man that game is weird LOL

It only gets weirder... Anyways, I just recruited Lloid and now I'm leveling him up in Magicant and it's taking FOREVER for him to level up! He's only level 5 and I've defeated like 7 Watchers and a million Ullriches! LLOID I KNOW YOU'RE WEAK, BUT COME ON, MAN!

Okay, so Lloyd is now level 15 and Ninten is level 20. I've just gotten through Duncan's Factory, and of course, I missed getting the second Franklin Badge... I'm gonna have to go back and get it at some point later on, because that was HELL trying to get through! I'm not sure where to go next, Yucca Desert maybe? I'm probably gonna check online for this, lol!

I want to buy the game to support the localization of Mother 3 in North America, but at the same time, I know I will not really play it as there are better/easier ways to play the game.

I can understand why you think that. The game can be tough as nails at some times, but it also has some rewarding moments. I've already played the other two games in the series, but I have yet to finish this one. There's something that I REALLY like about the three games. Even none of the main characters ever interact between games, they're all connected somehow, like how
Giugue from Mother 1 is also Giygas, just in a more deformed, manic state, and during the final battle of EarthBound, Pokey/Porky flees to the Nowhere Islands of Mother 3 to fight Lucas and friends.
