moving in/out villagers questions

hi everyone!! i've had some questions about the move out/in process, specifically with using amiibos.
what is your process when you trade with others? does one of you have to have an empty spot to move in a character first? how many days do you have to tt in order to get pinged for someone to move out? let me know, thank you!
