Ahhh, I have the original aqua blue 3DS from way back when and I just turned it on and the clock reverted itself to midnight 1/1 2011. I was worried for a second it had stopped being able to track time when turned off but is now working properly. Looks like it really is an old system now! I've taken decent care of it. Just thought I'd share. It's not too big of a deal to me but a bit of a shame if this does mean it's not going to last much longer, or maybe it's a known and random glitch.

Whenever that happened to me it was because of the battery moving/dislocating.

Maybe you might need to unscrew your 3DS to check it out?

Y'know, I thought it was a trick of my eyes but when I turned it on I did notice that the light flickered and I had to press the button a second time, but I thought it was just me because I was moving my head at the same time.

Maybe that's it! I'm not sure what would've caused the connection to get interrupted but maybe I just bumped it funny or something. It works fine now though so it must have been a fluke!

You're not the only one with an old aqua blue 3ds. I still have one in working condition! It's just that I lost the stylus and the rubber fell off from the joystick lol.

Have you found that yours has its face buttons rubbing away and getting all crusty? It's kinda adorable because it feels well loved. xD

My directional pad is a victim of this and yet, I don't use it often. XD The A,X,Y, and B buttons still look fine. The edges of my 3ds have parts of its colour chipped off but it already started a couple of years ago. :)

It’s trying to tell you something... something important happened in your life on 1/1 2011!

Did you not use it in a prolonged period of time? Because the battery can run out which is used to keep track of time. If it's empty, the clock will be reset once turned on again

That would explain the number of times my DSi would reset the clock and date. With the exception of my having to reseat the battery last week (or the week before last).

I got my N3DSXL launch day. It's only been 3.5 years, but it's great. It's survived the evolution of 3DS hacking, quite a few physical beatings, and I haven't had one problem with it.

I had been using my 3DS just that same day and the charge was fine. Today, when I put the system down it went to a black screen for like a split second and then turned back on, my game was still running and the clock was still fine. It must have been a very short amount of time that the battery disconnected this time. but that it has happened twice is a little concerning!

At this point, I'd recommend calling Nintendo and asking them what's going on. Maybe the battery is starting to swell and needs to be replaced? Maybe it's something else? I couldn't tell you, but it sounds like the 3DS has something wrong with it for sure.

Well it's working fine in between these issues going down and it hasn't interrupted the games or anything, and also the system is waaaay outside of warranty at this point and has been very well loved. I just thought it would be interesting to share as it might be a telling sign that the original systems from the beginning of the lifecycle may be beginning to fade.

I have a flame red original 3DS that still works perfectly but I did have to replace the battery about a year and a half ago(I've had this machine for five years). It's possible that your battery is starting to die and not your 3DS.Another possibility is what Flare said:The battery moving/losing contact. The date changed to 1/1 2011 on my New 3DS that I had owned for less than a year.I opened it up and took the battery out than put it back in making sure it was seated properly and the date change thing hasn't happened again.

No, my original 3DS did that all of the time! It was constantly messing with my New Leaf clock. I'd come back to a town full of weeds and a villager missing if I wasn't paying attention when starting up the game. I gave that 3DS to my 3 year old and it works perfectly for his needs. I got a new 3DS

I don't know if this is a problem for any of y'all, but I have one of the old 3DS XLs, the one where the front resembles an NES controller. It's a good few years old, and the trigger buttons don't want to work. Like, I try to take a screenshot on NL, and I have to slam the button with Hercules strength to get it to work. This isn't the case anymore, but my DS also used to have a graphical glitch where the top screen would appear very fuzzy and I could count the individual pixels. You'd have to shake it to get it back to normal.

Sorta unrelated, but I still have my black DS Lite and the hinge on it is dead. My Game Boy Color is my old console that's in the best shape, ironically.
